Can anyone help with a question about calories?

I am having a problem with finding the nutritional info (mainly calories) for my dinner this evening. I made a potato and corn chowder, a family recipe that's a staple in our house, but when I looked up "potato corn chowder"- there were so many choices! I went with a generic one, one that stated "homemade", and one from a can. Each one listed different calories and not just a small difference- differences ranging from 420 calories to 1140 calories. Does anyone know if there is a place on the site that might be able to help me better estimate the correct number of calories and if not, what should I do?

Sure. Works for all meals I prepare at home

Click Food > Click recipes > enter ingredients tell it how many servings, log a serving in my diary.
  • pandorian beat me too it...just make sure you really get the servings correctly done

You have to make your own receipe by entering in each ingredient and how much. So the next time you make it, it will all be there to click

Try entering it as your own recipe and add each ingredient individually. It's the best way to get a home recipe calculated. Hope this helps.

You can build the recipe on here. Under the food tab there is a spot called recipes and you can add everything in it and figure it out.

What I did was go into my recipe and put in all my ingredients and how many it serves and it will give you a calorie count for each serving. I hope this helps
  • I would add up all the individual ingredients, then divide by the number of servings (will probably need to measure total volume and then divide by cups, or, if you don't have a measure that big, scoop out a cup or half cup at a time, and see how many you get, transferring to another container). It's more work, but, if this is a staple in your house, at least you'll get an accurate count.

This is a slower process but if you go to food and then recipes you can add your recipe if you know the ingredients. Then you will be 100% sure of the calories, fat, iron, etc. :) Like I said it is a bit of a process but it is pretty awesome.

Thanks to everyone.. I didn't even realize they had this feature. Now I feel stupid for asking.. LOL. Oh well, at least now I know! Next time I'll do some more searching first. :P Thanks again!
