There's no magic to it, if you still have a belly that you're unhappy with, continue losing weight till you're happy with it.

Crunches are not a magic belly shrinking exercise, they are only ONE type of ab exercise. There are lots of other ones out there. Planks, reverse crunches, bicycle crunches, plus tons of other exercises that engage your abdominals in different ways. Plus doing ab exercises may tighten up your ab muscles, but it will not make you lose extra fat from that area. Fat is going to come off where ever it comes off, you can't change that. You just have to work those muscles to get them strong and keep up your caloric deficit to lose the fat that's hiding them. :-)

It sounds like you've achieved the dreaded "skinny fat" - you may be a low weight for your height but probably still have a higher than normal %body fat. Cardio eats lean muscle as well as fat. Lifting weights would build some muscle mass back up.
  • Its a skin game now. maybe consult a plastic surgeon. They have awesome lasers and treatments now to firm and tighten skin. I did it, I am happy. Best of luck!!

find yourself a TRX class or buy one and get some videos. i have better abs after baby than I did before! also bodyrock.tv (its free) You can't target tone, but if you are prone to trouble spots you can get them to catch up with the rest of the good spots!

I would say that you don't need to loose weight. Just try to up your weight lifting. Running and biking is fantastic but don't build up as much core muscle strength. Try finding some work outs that target your core that you could do at home. Make sure to mix it up because muscles react better when they do different things all the time.

All that to say, I bet you look wonderful and you should be proud of your body and dropping the weight! Great job

Agree, your fitness routine is cardio heavy. Perhaps look at your diet and keep your calorie count the same, but increase your proportion of protein. This may be tricky as protein is more calorie dense, so you may need to eat a significant amount of veggies and much less rice/breads to get the volume you need to feel full within your calorie limits.

A recent JAMA article found that calories alone account for the increase in fat; protein affected energy expenditure (i.e., basal metabolic rate) and storage of lean body mass, but not body fat storage.

I was going to say the same thing ... not necessarily about surgery, but that some people just have extra skin after a weight loss. I know I do ... Even when I've been close to my goal weight, I have this kind of pouch of skin that won't go away.

Many people have told me it's all about diet to lose that. Personally I think there are many factors. Diet, possibly, but also age, genetics, 'mileage' ...

I don't think surgery is the best way to combat a weight issue as your main tactic (lipo, gastric bypass, etc.) but I'm not opposed to a surgical correction if it's something someone wants to do to feel better about themselves. Sounds like you're doing great things to best culture your abs otherwise :)

Best of luck to you in whatever you decide to pursue for your solution!

Try and build some muscle and for your height and weight I think you need to check your calorie intake. More lifting lite cardio

Start weight training [heavy] 3 days per week - less cardio, and what you do perform, do intense interval training 3 days per week as opposed to long runs. Cycle your calories higher on resistance days and lower on cardio days.

Try that for 12 weeks and see if it works.

I love that you said this. I had a baby 5 months ago and am in the midst of trying to get my body back to normal. I'm hoping I can get my belly back to flat.

you need to build more muscle probably in your arms and other areas. jogging and biking dont really do that. try yoga and strength training. eat your maintenance calories for awhile and your body will change.

the weight distribution will go more into your muscles. it is hard to build muscles on a calorie deficit anyways. unless you are really out of shape.

I am 5'9" and currently weight 170. I would love to weigh 160-165 but in a lean way with a bit of muscle in the right spots.
below 150 sounds a bit skinny for me personally but I am somewhat stocky with a big head.

I also still have a belly even though my arms and legs are pretty toned. I only just started this journey 5 months ago so I know I have a long ways to go.

if you over balance the cardio and calorie deficit without having adequate strength training and recovery periods, you may sabotage your body a little bit. Cardio everyday could be burning off a bunch of the new muscle you are building, therefore making it harder for the fat collected in your trouble areas to be burned.

I remember being in that situation. Skinny fat :(. Check your body fat % and focus on lowering that. (this doesn't mean you have to lose more weight although it will likely be the case)

Focus of weight training/lifting 3 times a week and cut the excess cardio. Can't stress strength training enough.

You ran off all your muscle by not doing strength training and by not eating enough protein, at least thats what I am guessing from your food diary and exercises of choice. Too late to do anything about that, keep losing until all the fat is gone, or switch to a surplus and start adding some muscle first.

Here is something that might be fun- try a weighted hula hoop, and see if it gets some love handle to be gone. They might have them at your gym, so you could try before you buy. I heard they sell them at the big discount chains. Worth a try before you get surgery. Also, after I had babies, the drooping flesh was uggggggly. However, it gradually shrank back until it was no more. Give it time, might work for you. :glasses:

...and definitely start doing heavy weights!

the sugar i eat is 1 fireball a day and some days an apple. I eat 4 pretzels every night and a glass of wine...I am not willing to give that up I do need to live a little right.. I eat oatmeal with water every morning, lunch is red leafed romaine lettuce, a little olive oil and vini, very little low mosiature low fax max cheese, onion, mushrooms, cukes. and either tuna, shrimp,or turkey ( 2-3ozs) and a handfull of cashews for a snack...supper is usually fish, venison, refried bean taco etc...pretzles and wine after supper...I eat one small ice cream a week after friday night salmon and tuna sushi..no soda or beer etc..water during the day

Now I run between 4-5 miles at least 3 x's a week and bike hard about 20 - 30 miles on the days I dont run and usually a brsk walk after supper everynight ! I do this EVERY day no exceptions..Then usually 3 times a week weighs and crunches etc...my belly has what looks like extra skin..I am down from tight in 36 jeans to 31" waist, I know I have lost fat but my legs and calfs are muscle from biking and running, my biceps are solid...
Im 53 yr ols male about 5'8" - 5'9" tall and I weigh 143 naked

If you keep doing the hours of cardio it's going to be harder to get rid of that flab. To lose fat the best thing you can do is lift heavy weights. Look at something like New Rules of Lifting. You've decreased your lean body mass by the sounds of it and need to build it back up.

Hours of cardio burn fat and lean muscle mass, so you can be skinny and have high body fat %. You need to add weight training to reduce the fat while maintaining or building muscle. Whether you maintain or build depends on your calorie and protein intake and how heavy you are lifting.

not sure i follow...I DO weights 3 times a week, not real heavy but curls, bench etc...Also, are you saying running and biking DONT build muscle ???? my legs are solid muscle so this doesnt help.....

I know BEFORE i started biking and running I had a LOT more fat than I do now... and alot less wind and stamina

Now if my biking and running is building cadio and muscle at the same time, and I do weights 3 tims a week,,,,,
