I had a three can a day diet coke habit before the beginning of the new year. I do take ibuprofen for it and doesn't seem to touch it. I have once gone back to drinking some just to get my headache to stop (it worked) Anyone have any suggestions.

    This.

Sip it throughout the day, dont glurg it. You'll need to wean yourself off the caffeine of diet coke. Maybe try switching to caffeine-free diet coke, then gradually cut it out altogether?
  • You can also try Excedrin. It has caffeine in it and I know if I do not have my coffee in the morning I usually get a headache by the afternoon. Unless of course your trying to eliminate caffeine. Eventually your body gets used to not having.

Are you trying to eliminate soda or caffeine or both? If you need another caffeine substitute - try adding in a cup of tea each day to curb the caffeine headache. If you're trying to cut out caffeine, though, there's really nothing for it but to wait it out. The first three days are always the hardest, I've heard, and after the first week it starts to get easier.

How does a caffeine-free beverage help with caffeine withdrawal? No. Drink coffee or tea, take caffeine pills, or just wait until the addiction wears off.

What I have found is that you wean yourself off slowly, it works better. If you are drinking 3 a day, cut it down to 2 a day for a couple of days, then one a day... after a few days, take it down to a half. You will find that the headaches aren't so brutal. or...if youa re going to suffer through the headaches, understand that it only lasts for a few days and then all is good again.

Why'd you go cold-turkey? Of course you're going to have a headache :) Cut your caffeine intake down gradually, not all at once. Otherwise, you're just going to have to tough it out. Water isn't really going to help *that* much (maybe a little...) and ibuprofen/tylenol will only take the edge off a bit.

I'd recommend another caffeine source if your anti-soda right now- tea, coffee, excedrine, no-doz, those 5 hour energy drinks- then a gradual tapering down if you're trying to eliminate caffeine from you diet.

By the way, there's no evidence that caffeine effects weight loss one way or another, so if you're cutting it out of your life for weight loss, you don't have to :D Of course their are other good reasons to cut down on caffeine- and good reasons not too.

    Anyway, good luck.

I'm going through the same thing right now. I was drinking anywhere from 1-4 cans, bottles or 32oz. Pepsi or Cokes a day. When I stop, which I've done many times, I usually have a pretty steady headache for 3-4 days. Once the caffeine is completely out of my system I'm fine. I've found that weaning myself off of it doesn't work. I last drank caffeine on Sunday. I needed to take asprin by noon on Monday. Wednesday was the first day that I didn't need any, I still had a minor lingering headache, but nothing I couldn't handle. Today is Thursday and I still have some head pain, but I could live with it. I think by tomorrow it should be completely gone. Good luck with it, it's not easy, but can be done.
  • I am trying to cut out pop. I never thought of trying a glass of tea. If the headache persiste to bad this afternoon, I will grab a tea bag. If I can make it until tonight I will go pick up some excederin headache. Thanks everyone with such great suggesions.
