Hello MFP folks!!! I am brand new to the site, and to calorie counting!!! I have always been told that calories have nothing to do with weight loss.....well, if science has anything to do with it, I would say...UM YES IT DOES....I have spent Thousands of $$ on ww and LA weight loss. Not one of the programs out there want you to talk about calories.
I have figured it out....BECAUSE IF YOU DO, YOU WONT NEED THEIR PROGRAMS!!!! its that simple. If you control your caloric intake and burn more than you take in, YOU WILL LOSE...its scientific. Even if you are too large to move at this time, you will still lose weight if you cut back on the calories.
I am giving this a '100%-lose-it trial period'. I am hoping that I can 1 learn more about calories and their importance and 2 gain control over my cravings and whims to eat and over eat.
over the last couple of days, I have noticed I am VERY particular what I put on my plate. I am opting to not have that exta scoop of butter, or even that first scoop! Nice to see you all....and I hope to get lots of support and give back when ever I can!

Good for you! This can be really tough in the beginning, it's a learning process of how to budget your calories and still feel satisfied, but it is so worth all the effort! One thing you might find helpful is actually planning out your day in advance - if you can see how things add up *before* you actually eat them, it's easier to control the numbers. And that way you can budget to have a snack here and there, too. Congrats on joining and working at this - it is definitely worth it and it WORKS as long as you are diligent and honest!

Welcome! ^^ It can be a real eye-opener once you realize all the little things you start to eat and exactly how fast it can add up. And hopefully before too long, you'll have to change your username to skinnychavez.

Best way to think, is to eat "like a caveman" or like they did 100 yrs. ago. Buy from the outside of the store... dairy, meats, produce... etc. Just stay away from anything in a box including frozen dinners. Anything in a box, you can make on your own. Stay away from fast food, unless it is salads or Subway. If you drink pop, stop. Change to kool aid or crystal light... or drink tea. Watch shows like "Hungry Girl" and Dr. Oz. PM me if you have questions about anything.

Calories have EVERYTHING to do with weight loss, if you eat less calories then you burn then you'll loose weight! Hurra!

Also, calories tracking, whilst seem compulsive and obsesive to some really helps you appriciate how even the smallest of foods can be packed full of calories. Biscuits (cookies if you're American) are my favourite example of this & you steadily start to think (I shouldn't have that, I've already had x amount of calories) and ever since then I find myself rarely snacking, other then on my cheat days!
