Eating out

The hubby and I went to Chipotle tonight since we were starving and it was the healthiest restaurant around. They have brown rice at my location so I got that, with some chicken. What I am concerned about is their portions. The slips of paper that say the calorie content IS accurate but not when they give you double the amount of the portion. I felt out of control without my scale so I only ate half the bowl and counted it in my diary as a full meal. Has anyone else had this problem while eating out?

I take a glance at this every week at least just to remind myself what different portions look like. Then I can get a pretty good guess of how much I ate.

most times when i eat out i dont worry about it, since we only eat out on my high calorie days.. but there was a time i would be uncertain and only eat half, then weigh it when i got home to see how much to log. im pretty good at eyeballing now anyway and can guesstimate

When we et out I try my best to eyeball and cut the portions in half. Most spots are serving up enough for for 3 people. I like that I've been measuring out portions so now when I go out I feel confident about my estimates.

Nope. I do my research ahead of time for nutritional information and if I have to guestimate a few things then I do. It's not realistic to weigh everything you eat all the time. Part of this whole healthier lifestyle thing for me is learning how to eat in the real world while maintaining (or at this point still losing) weight. Good luck.
  • I have an app that tells me how much the portions are and just from using my scale I could see that he wasnt giving me 3 oz of anything. It was more like 6. But I'm glad I use my scale because I understand what 3 oz of meat looks like as well as 2 tbsp of sauce, etc. I'm glad I cut it in half because I weighed the other half and it was closer to the total than what I was given.
