Saving calories?

My birthday is this weekend and the hubbie wants to go out for a night on the town....dinner and drinks. I want to be able to enjoy myself and not obsess...how would you handle that?

Do I not eat much all day? Do a high calorie burn workout? Or just chalk it up to a cheat day?

I would try to save some calories in the few days leading up to it (so, starting tomorrow I guess), I'd try to end the day with 100-200 cals below my goal.

On the day of the event I'd eat a couple of light low-cal meals and maybe a very light snack, but try to save at least half my cals for that day for going out. I'd also make sure to get a good workout in.

If you end up still feeling like you had more than you should've, no biggie. Cheat days happen, and it's your birthday! Celebrate! :)

    And happy birthday!

Not eating during the day tends to make me grumpy so I don't do that, but I do pay attention to what I'm eating during the day.
Usually I go for a long run on Saturdays, so that helps to give me extra cals to eat if we're going out.
Or, if it's a one off and I go way over my cals - I just enjoy it and get back to normal the next day.
Don't worry too much about, enjoy your night out

Whatever fits best for you. One day isn't going to sabotage your efforts.

I would go a little light during the day and then have fun for dinner without thinking, that's my thinking. If you workout during the day normally, you could beef it up if it makes you feel better.

But I like my splurgey "special" days. Others are very very against them...

Most days I eat about half of my exercise calories back, sometimes more, and then have one splurge day. I actually track my calories more weekly than daily - your body doesn't have a reset button each day so as long as you're fueling your body for normal activities and your workouts, save those calories for a great night out. Happy Birthday!

Don't even call it a cheat day. Just let it be a day when you ate outside of moderation and went back to it the next. One day won't hurt.

I would do a high calorie burn, then have fun! We deserve it, right?

Personally, I would eat during the day with in reason and chalk it up to a cheat day. Your birthday is one day a year......one day won't hurt your progress. Just be smart about it and have fun. Happy Birthday!

BTW, mine is on Mon (1/9)

I say enjoy yourself. If you feel bad with a cheat day, put your work in that morning so you won't feel so guilty for indulging yourself!

    Happy early birthday!

I was going to say this, but she said it better. I've never really like the name "cheat" day either, I call it a "free" day or just a "blissfully unaware" day (which isn't true, I'm always aware). But I say just have fun!

I hear ya. I had one of those days yesterday (Montreal + sushi = lots of eating) I ate lightly during the day and then splurged. I started fresh this morning. Its your birthday, so I say have fun and shake your booty! Happy Birthday!
  • I would workout (high calorie burn) and try to pick healthy choices (like salad for dinner), and portion control the cake and ice cream.
