MFP has my diet high in carbs and low in protein. I ate tuna and chicken today and am over on protein by 59!!! Isnt it better to have more of a balance? Should I adjust it or trust the program? What else can I eat to get my protein down?

  • In my opinion, MFP defaults to a pretty low protein macro... So going over shouldn't be an issue. You might want to do some research on what macro setting might be good for you and your body (for example, are you a runner? If so, you might need more carbs than someone like myself) and then manually change your settings (it's under "Goals," I believe). There's a ton o' great threads on here about that topic.

Personally, I have mine set to 40/30/30 (carbs/fat/protein) and my body seems to be happy and cooperative.

That said, you can also ignore your macros and just focus on total calories in/out (might be easier if you're getting used to calorie counting or if you have a lot to lose).

Thanks. I think if I focus on total calories I should be ok?
  • I love MFP but I basically ignore their fat and protein recommendations haha. What's worked for me is 1250-1350 calories, 170-200 carbs, 20-30g fat, 70+g protein. Try different levels for a few days each and see where your body responds best. Calories are probably the most important, the others you can play with and figure out what works for you! :)

I trust MFP to maintain mine. I mainly watch my calories, and I started noticing I go over my sodium intake. I think it is right because those are the days I feel like I am retaining water. So I am trying to watch and balance things out, but calories are the most important to me! :)

    1200? SHOCKER!

Your calories are set to that of a rabbit! So anything above rabbit food will throw you over.
Set your calories to 20% below TDEE for best results when losing weight.

Set calories to something like 1600.
Protein should be about .60g-1g per lean body mass.
Fat should be set to .45g-.60g per lean body mass.

If you need help let me know.
