Your body takes a while to adjust to anything new.
Are you eating any fruits, veggies and leafy greens?

I've been eating healthy for quite a bit of time now and the other day I ate Chinese food (first time in a long time) and I got pretty sick because I hadn't eaten like garbage in a very long time. Here's what one of my MFPals said in response:

"it's the sodium and bloat that's making you feel that way. Once you are accustomed to healthier lifestyle, your body pretty much rejects the bad stuff. Just like when you're high on junk foods, when you make the switch to cleaner foods, your body rejects it too. Funny how that works though."

I couldn't've said it better myself but just keep that in mind. For veggies, pick something you really enjoy. I've always loved cucumbers and broccoli so I started off with fresh cucumbers and steamed broccoli with steamed carrots. It's something you almost have to train yourself on. Once you figure out what is good for you, then it won't be tough to find things. Focus on lower sodium, as well.

big staples of my diet are as follows:

    oatmeal
    peanut butter
    eggs
    chicken
    almonds
    apples
    bananas

i do a lot of bulk cooking. i'll make a weeks worth of oatmeal, 8 hard boiled eggs, an grill up 4-6 pounds of chicken breast. it helps being prepared.

i mix extra chunky peanut butter in with my oatmeal for breakfast, and i'll slice a banana up into it.

6-8 ounces of chicken with a leaf of lettuce and a smear of mayo on a whole wheat wrap makes a great lunch or even a snack.

i replaced my 3pm soda with an apple and some almonds. great source of energy.

It might help if you tell us what you are eating

You can see on my food
  • Here's a specific suggestion:

You may think I'm nuts but try a spinach smoothie to get your veg. It may sound gross but I'm sure it will be easier for you than eating a big salad.

    2c spinach
1c strawberries or pineapple (any sweet fruit)
    1/2c or so of water

    blend and guzzle

You'll be surprised how good it tastes. The spinach hardly has any flavor. It's like thick fruit juice. I read your diary -- one of these a day and you've come a long way!

Well yeah fruit and veggies are a good start, you can also continue to eat what you want but in moderation, like say you want a burger and chips (or fries), i call them chips, im from ireland! lol...

well instead of going and buying a them, cook it yourself, in the oven instead maybe, less fat and healthier already :) if you read the back of most things it'll tell you what is a healthy amount to eat.. and just keep count of the calories, you'll do great :-D

    (Hope that helped a little)
  • I like to start my day off with protein most of the time. Omelet with egg whites, 1 yoke or egg substitute, throw some veggies in there, salsa, light cheese, etc. Try to stay away from processed foods as much as possible, white flour, white rice, white pasta as all the work is already done and your body doesn't do any work to digest them. Hope this helps! My diet is open too, so take a peak, it's not perfect, but it's not bad....
