starting jogging again, in the evenings, although i did go this morning at 6:30am, i have ankle weights which are the lightest ones soo only weigh 1lb each. just wondering whether they would be ok to strap on whilst i go for a light jog?

i wear my ankle weights when i go on zumba and just dance for the wii. soo was thinking off having them on whilst outside jogging. would it help a little more towards toneing up my legs?

thanks in advanced x

Bumping ... for walking. I feel a burn happening. Considering I prob use to have that much or more weight on me anyway !

Congrats on your progress, well done.

No, at best they'll do nothing at such a light weight, at worst the imbalance could cause an injury. Stick with the running and I promise you'll torch plenty of calories and have lovely toned legs!

I've not seen anyone do this... I do know some ultra runners who do Fell running and they always carry a small back pack when they're out. You're probably better off doing this - maybe an camel pack for water... Has the advantage that you can empty it if necessary. Or drink it of course :)

Here's some more info: Is it safe to run with ankle weights?

    Misconceptions

Some athletes believe they can perform their regular running workouts while wearing ankle weights, but ankle weights are not designed for running. Individuals who run with ankle weights are more likely to hamper their performance than to help it.

    Warning

Using ankle weights while running places additional stress on muscles, bones, and hip, knee and ankle joints. They can cause tendinitis and affect your stride, which increases your risk for injuries such as ankle sprains, tendon tears and back problems.

I love them but not for running.
I weigh myself down with 15 lb ankle wraps and a 60 lb vest, then take a 3 mile walk.
    LOVE IT!

agree with everyone---not while running!!! but you could while walking if you so desired, less impact, but could throw you off balance, risk is not as high walking as with running with ankle weights but still a risk.
  • Even if they are just 1 pound each, the weight is compounded as you land on each foot when jogging, especially on hard surfaces. You'd be better off wrapping them around your wrists or carry them in your hands if it all.
