I just about hit my "never going to be" number.

Hi my name is Sheryl and I am overweight. Infact I am pretty sure I have hit the "obese" level. I am 5'5" and 199lbs. I swore I would never be 200 lbs. I was always a small person until I was 22. At 22 when I met my now husband I was 120 lbs. Before my son I had gained to 140. While pregnant I hit 220 maybe 230. As recent as summer 2010 I was only 170 lbs and a year and a half later I am the heaviest not pregnant I have ever been.
It isnt just about my weight. Infact clothed I can carry it rather well. 180-190 even looked pretty good since I have a larger chest and an hour glass shape (and the mommy pouch). My decision to lose some weight came when my already injured back started to hurt more, and I needed my preggo body pillow to sleep comfortable. Thats when I downloaded this APP and joined. Last night I stood on the scale and was shocked I was 199. I thought only 190.
No my goal is in the next year to get to 150 lbs. I have no desire to be 120 lbs again, or really any less then 150. I like my curves, it's makes me the sexy and vivacious body type that matches my personality. It is what suits me!
I can't do this alone and I don't have a lot of friends who understand. They are either naturally able to maintain their weight or much heavier then me and therefore would think I was nuts for complaining.
Hoping to meet some people here and make some new friends. Help inspire and be inspired.
Sheryl M.
ps. sorry so long....

welcome. I am sure you will find some great supportive friends here. We are all on a journey to health, however health is defined for each of us.0

Thank you. I agree. Health is different for all. What works for one and what one wants to see in the mirror is not what another does.0

Then I'm glad you're here in MFP! I was at my highest weight at 219 lbs. I was horrified by the picture I was tagged in. And I swear that I would never EVER get back to that weight. But, don't give up on yourself With the amount of support here, I'm sure you'll never get to that number again Keep on going, girl0

Joining MFP, and logging your food intake and exercise is a HUGE STEP, and will alert you to the changes you need to make in your food intake. Portion control is a huge thing!! We Americans are just not taught how to eat. This site is a great tool, as well as great support. Good luck on your journey!

Good for you! I'm also 5'5", have an hourglass figure, and like being curvy. I have a pretty small frame, though, so am looking at sticking between 125 and 130. There is a range of what's healthy, and each body is different. From that, we each choose what is healthy for us.

Welcome! You can get there with this site, just look through the Success Stories. Just be determined to log your meals each and every day. If you like, you can open your diary by going to Settings > Diary Settings > Diary Sharing and change it to Public. That will help with accountability.
Lastly, add as many friends as you can for support! We are all here to help. While I didn't have much weight to lose, I joined for my family. I've logged in for almost 4 months straight and love supporting others. I also run so if you want to get into running I can give you tips, etc.
All the best in your journey! You can do it!!0 -
I need more supportive friends...you can add me! You've come to the right place! That 200 number was my cut off point too. I lost 6 on my own then found this site. Since I started in Aug. 2011 I've lost 16 lbs. I tried every diet there was...this makes such common sence. I Love it!! Welcome! :flowerforyou:0

once you get on track, those first 10-20 lbs will be a breeze.... then that will get you motivated. Try joining the group challenges that some of the MFP members do. Im doing one right now.. its from Jan 1- Feb 14 th. It's a great way to keep you motivated because you're on a team and you do not want to disappoint your group.
If you really want it, you can do it. Anyone can. Keep your goal in mind and constantly remind yourself that you never want to be 199 again.
I started at 253 lbs and am now at 173lbs. It took a lot of determination, strength and self control but you can do it.
I'll add you.. hope I can be of some help.
Good luck on your journey!0 -
I'm 5'5 and want to get down to 158 which is still overweight according to the charts but that suits me. I look good at that size and can wear pretty much what I want so I understand. Also I'm 51 and at that age you cannot be thin as it shows in your face!
Anyway, log your food and exercise. Keep coming back to the site and it will definitely come off. It will be slow but it will be sure.
Wish you every success.0 -
I totally agree with Jeanine. When you start working the tools here before you know you really look for ways to change things. Lots of help, advice and encouragement here. Your determination is your best tool. I am sure you can succeed at this. Welcome to a new you.0

I totally understand! I am the same as you, in that I like my curves, so 150lbs would be the lowest I would ever go. Feel free to add me!0

it isn't just an American thing, I am Canadian and we are not really taught either. Only thing is our gov't SOMETIMES limits certain things from being allowed in our foods which is a very tiny help.0 -

great idea about making it public and I agree with the support. I found MFP as a balckberry app and this website is just the bonus! I am very committed and interested to log my food!0 -

Thanks! Funny you say 7 lbs. That is my one month goal. My son turns 3 in a month and 7 lbs will atleast get me back into my regular current clothes and looking not like I am falling out of them or suffocating.
Friends will be hard, I have many who don't need to diet. But I have been so honest with them about what I am doing and that I need to do it for me and my happiness they will very likely support me even if they can't understand.0 -
Hiya, i also hit 200 which kicked me back because i never wanted to be that!! I have whittle it down to 190 and my long term goal is 140 so we have the same amount to lose!! Im 5'4 and also carry the weight quite well but i dont want to be this size anymore!!! Good luck in your journey!!

Hi,
Reading your post was like reading my own battle ... up and down with weight and pregnancies. I never thought I'd get to 200 but now I'm 207. I always thought I was ok as long as I weighed less than my husband but he is 208 (and 6'4" ... I'm only 5'7"). I refuse to put on another pound! Maybe we can help motivate each other ... I'm sending you an invite!0 -
Hello,
I totally understand how you feel. I was once 250, and I swore that I would never get to there again. Here I was 240, and knew that if I got to that weight again, well lets just say I do not know what I would have done. You are making the best choice by joining MFP and the support is amazing. We can do this, all together. We are here for each other, and for our selves!0 -
Welcome. I started here (and started exercising) when I was 10# over my "never going to be" number. I'm down 21# since August. I think we all need to reach "that point" before we realize something needs to be done and "that point" is different for everyone.
All the best on your journey to great health.0
