Why does today seem so hard?!

So I started getting healthy before the new year. Thought if I eased into it, things would be easier, and they have been. I gave up all pop and have only drank water for over 2 weeks now. After the new year I started on proteins, fruits and veggies. I have been doing great and steadily losing but today for some reason I can't seem to stop thinking about the brownies in the back office at work. Yesterday when they first came in I didn't want any. Today I'm craving nothing but sweets and it's driving me nuts! Why after a week of doing so good and having no sweets cravings is it hitting me now?!

I've been doing this for 15 months now, and those days still happen.
Sometimes, you just want something. You can ignore the craving and fight through if you think you can manage it, but I take the other approach and feed my cravings in moderation.
I've tried both ways, and if I get a craving for something and I ignore it, it NEVER goes away. I can still have it months later, so instead I feed the craving just enough, and move on.0 -
Have a small borwnie, log it ang be happy. Denying yourself a little pleasure is no fun.0

Eat some protein, Quick!
Low fat yogurt with almonds
Tuna, Turkey, Hard Cheese
Peanut Butter and Apple0 -
I like the protein first idea, then if you are still craving it can you make yourself have just one?0

I agree with those above. You need to make a LIFESTYLE change, not be dieting if you want to KEEP the weight off. That means that if you want a brownie, eat a small one and log it in your diary. Then tonight when you would normally have a snack you will remember that you had your snack this morning.
If you deny yourself all the delicious things in life, you will never stick to losing weight. The key is moderation. If we are all honest with ourselves, we know that we are fat because we threw moderation out the window a long time ago, as well as excercising often and drinking water instead of soda, lattes and juices.
But having a latte sometimes is no big deal. It means that you have a salad for lunch which is barely any calories. If you have a brownie for breakfast, have a cucumber (or whatever, I love cukes and tomatoes for snacks) for your snack tonight and it's only a few calories. You've been good, you've gotten your veggies in and you managed that craving.
Good luck!0 -
ther are two types of cravings, physical and emotional.
a physical craving is when you crave something like bread, pasta.. some sort of carb. this is your body telling you that you are lacking these things so its asking for more.
an emotional craving is when you crave things like chocolate, brownies, sweets etc. this is a craving we have developed over years of bad eating and snacking and you only get these cravings when you're bored/stressed/upset.. that kinda thing.
the way to think about it is its all psychological, you don't need it your body just fancies it.. but don't give in!!
add me if you feel like you need the support or join my group "what a lovely pair" its designed to match you with someone that is a similar weight/height and also have the same sort of goals to you0 -
I vote that it's okay to have that treat if it's within your limit for the day. I like the suggestion of the above poster by eating something filling like almonds or a string cheese.
You can also try something sweet like yogurt to see if that takes it away.
If not? Give in to the brownie! Having one brownie will not take down your goals. I mean, don't eat one every time you walk back, but if you deprive yourself you are setting yourself up to binge, over-indulge, or not carry through with your goals.
You can do this!0 -
I know it's a lifestyle and not a diet but if you start giving yourself the OK and give into your cravings, before you know it, you are doing it all the time. You have to work through it. There are always going to be temptations. You have the power to pick which one you give into and which ones you don't. Good luck.0

Thank you everyone! I had some yogurt with crushed Oreo. I know the cookies arn't the healthiest but it did help my craving for the sweets. And mickipedia your so right. I've gotten so use to eating when I'm bored or stressed and I so need to change that habit. I'm almost 25 and don't want to live the rest of my life being over weight. Getting up early to pack a healthy lunch does suck some days especially since Im a single mom of a child with sleep apnea. But nothing worth having comes easy. And having my hot body back is so worth having. Its so nice to have a support group. Thanks again everyone0
