I also log jogging miles on daily mile and there are HUGE calorie estimate differences between the two. How do I know which its right? I'm talking 250+ calorie differences.

Your best bet is to get a fitbit or bodybugg that tracks your actual daily calorie expenditure by a device you wear all day. I found huge differences between *most* internet trackers and my bodybugg when I got it and now I am on track. I was WAY over-logging my calories OUT! Myfitnesspal is still the bast food tracker in my opinion. So now I use both. Good Luck! and always err on the side of caution.

DM doesn't seem to account for speed at all in their calculations. I walked yesterday at about 3.6mph for 49 minutes, then at about 3mph for 10 minutes - so 3.5 miles total. When I plugged it into DM, before I changed it from running to walking, it said 800+ calories burned! Sure, if I ran for an hour at 8 or 9mph, but not doing 16.5 minute miles! When I changed it to walking, and then put in my walking at the correct speeds/times on MFP, the calorie estimate was about the same.
  • That's a tough one...I've found calorie burn estimators on the web that give almost 100 more calories burned in walking 3 mph for 60 than my fitnesspal; a 230 more calories burned per hour between ski machines (I have a 25 year old NordicTrack that is still giving a great workout!). I'd tend to use myfitnesspal as a very conservative estimate. If you think about it, that is good, as it is also difficult to keep calories consumed totally accurate.
True calorie burn, from what I've read, depends on age, weight and the intensity of what you are doing. The main thing: KEEP WORKING and the excess weight will burn off if you limit the calories taken in. I'm new to this site, (fighting weight all my life + Type II diabetes)) and am finding myfitnesspal is a great site to keep track of it all. GOOD LUCK!!
