HRM VS CARDIO EQUIPMENT??

I rec'd a Polar FT7 Heart Rate Monitor for Christmas. I set it up with my stats and have been using it for a couple of weeks now. When comparing the number of cals I burned from the HRM says to what the ellptical or treadmill says, the cals burned have been always lower on the HRM and higher on the ellptical or treadmill. For example: Today the ellptical (i entered my weight and age into the ellptical) said I burned 789 cals but the HRM said I only burned 583. My thought is.. since my HRM has the band I wear around my chest and acutally monitors my Heart Rate I would think that the HRM is more accurate. Can someone please clarify for me which cals burned I should be using?? Thanks! :huh

HRM.. always.
The elliptical only uses general formulas to estimate calories burned.. and does not take heart rate into those equations. While the HRM considers all info plus heart rate when it estimates calories.0 -
Thanks. I was almost 100% positive the HRM but a couple of people told me something different.0
