Bmr and mfps calculation

Hi Guys
Please dont take this the wrong way, i love this site, it has given me massive success in certain areas and really helped me motivation but im just unsure on how accurately it works out bmr.
Im 200cm tall , 117 kg, male and 29, my work is i would say mildly active. i have inputted all this info into mfp and to loose 500 grams/ 1 pound a week i need to maintain 2300 odd calories a day, no problem, i have been doing so, but today i went on to about 5-6 other bmr calculators and they all read 3500+ odd bmr per day which means im in 1200 odd calorie deficit per day? does this sound right?
Im not having trouble sticking to the calories, been in the amount every day for two weeks and in some respects have had massive results (loss in cm in some places quite drastic) but still no weight loss.
I quit smoking about 6 weeks ago, went down to 1 cup of coffee a day and have given up all gassy/sugary cooldrinks and replaced with water and 0% milk so i am as they say (sticking with the program)
Any suggestions? One other thing , i am consuming about a litre of 0% milk a day, is this to much and/or hindering me? I am logging every drop in my food diary.
would appreciate any advise
Kind regards
Justin

I was just reading about BMR in an email from Jillian Michaels and I found this calculation:
MALE: 66 + (6.3 × body weight in pounds) + (12.9 × height in inches) − (6.8 × age in years)
So that would make your total 2513.3 calories per day.
Hope it helps!0 -
i dont use mfp for this..i use the more accurate harris benedict formula. google it0

I got my BMR using the Katch-McArdle Formula which factors in body fat as well, I think this might be more accurate. I have set my goal to be maintenance on a sedentary activity level, so BMR x 1.2 and aim to see 500 green numbers every day roughly0

Every calculator is going to be right for some and wrong for others. There is no perfect method you can do yourself online.
If you are eating 2300 calories a day, losing weight and inches, and DO NOT feel hungry or deprived, then you are doing FINE.
Harris-Benedict and Katch-McArdle are good calculators, though, and pretty darn accurate in my opinion.

As for drinking a lot of fat free milk: You are logging it all and it's not ruining your diary for the day so there is NO problem. If your body can handle that much dairy (no sign of lactose intolerance?) then milk is FINE.0 -
I just looked at your diary.
Again, I don't see anything wrong.
You are doing fine. Keep it up.
It is only when you get down to those last ten pounds that you have to really think about your intake and your macros. At this stage in your progress you have lots of wiggle room. Use the time between now and then to read and research while losing.
My only advice for you to use NOW is to start lifting heavy. Do not wait until you lose the fat to start building muscle. Hit the weights hard NOW.0 -
Looking at nearly all the BMR calculators on the net, I got very exhausted
Basically, they all said about the same thing.
Some were way high and some were way to low..
I took the average of 8 BMR readings and came up with a number that was perfect for me..
Jillian Micheals BMR was about the closest at 1851.6, while the Harris one was 500 over..
I do not know if they calculated how many times I exercised and for how long...
Basically, I would go with the recommendations of around 2000 for males...
Myself, I am sticking at around 1500..
Good luck0 -

Robin is, as always, very wise. In fact, no calculators work particularly well for me, and considering how fast I was losing, what mfp thought was a 500 kcal deficit was probably a 1200 kcal one for me.
I'd say keep going as you are if you're losing inches. If your weight starts to drop too fast, eat more.
Hope your weight loss goes well.0 -
I posted this on another thread,
"I had this exact talk with a medical professional today who ran a series of metabolism tests, bodyfat/muscle composition tests and he advised me that my bmr is 2200cal but this site is putting me at a little over 1700. Needless to say he had serious issues with it when I brought it up and advised me to never go below my bmr and that includes calories burnt exercising. My net each day should be 2200. And with a diet change and appropriate exercise my fat will be replaced with muscle and in the end will provide a healthy caloric intake.
I am not saying this to sway anyone or to speak ill of the site, I will definitely use it to track my calories but with advice of a medical professional will not follow the calorie recommendation."0 -
