At Christmas I was given protein powder and started incorporating it into my diet this week. So far only on workout days. Thing is, I have it after workouts which is around lunchtime but also need my lunch so my lunchtime calories have risen.

When do people take their shakes and do you do anything to liven them up?

Also, this weekend (I haven't worked out or had a shake), I've felt much hungrier than normal, anyone aware of a possible correlation? I do realize I''m only going on one week.

Cheers!

I usually just have my shakes as an afternoon snack, I don't think they need to be consumed immediately after a workout.

And if you're hungrier could it be the workouts? Have you just started or increased them?

If you are doing weight training you are best to take it immediately after training, but I have multiple shakes through out the day to get my intake up higher as I do quite a bit of weight work

I have oatmeal for breakfast before my workout, and then a protein shake immediately after. I then have a high-protein snack around 11ish (100g of Smoked Salmon with some lemon juice and fresh black pepper).

My shakes tend to be very plain though (vanilla or chocolate flavour), 25g portion of powder made with water. That way nothing interferes with the job I am paying for it to do.
