Hey guys, Treadmill question, I am planning on buying my very first treadmill :3 Now, the one I ORIGINALLY wanted was the Golds Gym 410 (377*I would buy extra protection for this one). After reading reviews of the belt slipping I am thinking about going for a Livestrong Ls8.0T(699), 10.0T(899), or the elite model 13.0T(1099). I will use this baby everyday morning noon and night so I want a reliable one. I am debating on saving up the extra cash for the top of the line model if I am going to use it and keep it for a long time. Please let me know what you guys think :)

  • I always promote forgetting the treadmill and running outdoors. However, nobody ever takes my advice! If you are going to buy a treadmill that you expect to use a lot, buy the best you can possibly afford. Minimum 3.0 HP motor, long and wide deck (57" x 20"+), and a great warranty.
Sole makes decent treadmills in that category, but the best in the industry is Precor. They are not cheap (in quality or price), but you will not be disappointed. Besides, if it doesn't work out, they have great resale value. I found a very lightly used one (two years old) on Craigslist a while back for only $1500! These retail in the $3500-$4000 range. They have a 10yr warranty (frame, parts) and are well-built. Many health clubs/gyms use this brand. No, I do not work for Precor!
But seriously, give the great outdoors a chance!

IMO, you should try walking/running for FREE outdoors first. If you can't commit to FREE exercise for at least a month, then that treadmill will end up being an expensive clothes hanger.

I have wanted a treadmill for years, and I have ran outside. I just want it for the convenience :)

Ensure the treadmill can go to a fast speed. If you get one that only goes to say, 16kpm, you will eventually have it running at over 75% speed or faster. Whereas if you get one that goes to 18-20kpm or faster, it will not be running at such a high percentage and will have lots of leeway.

Regarding running outdoors, I am one of those that use the treadmill all the time because of severe shinsplints that I get when running outdoors - I do not get these on the treadmill.

If you are running... spend the extra money. Cheaper treadmills will NOT hold up to it!!
