Before I was eating roughly 1200 cals a day. I was losing about 1lb a week. I say about, I often didn't lose that much.
This Christmas I decided I was just going to enjoy myself and came off counting calories. So at the start of December I decided that I would eat as I wanted as long as I didn't over eat. However I failed at that as when I weighed myself on the first of January I'd gained 11lbs.
So I went back to tracking. However I decided that I would only track and put myself on maintenance mode.
I've lost 6lbs on maintenance. In a week.
Can't lose when I try, lose lots when I don't.

The fact you changed things up a bit for yourself is awesome! Sometimes we need to screw around with our methods with food... That is awesome that you dropped 50% of what you gained already... truly awesome!
I still love your hair by the way!0 -
This sometimes happens to me too >.<
Oh well though, at least you're losing, right? :')0 -

Only water weight changes that quickly. I think this means you only put on 5lb rather than 11lb over Christmas (maybe less than that if several pounds come off this week).
I didn't even bother weighing myself for the first time until Friday to try to let the water go first.0 -

So you're saying everything I lost was water weight. Gee thanks.
:brokenheart:
Given I'm eating a very simliar diet to December, just tracking it and not going over my calories please tell me how does that work? I'm not saying that some of it couldn't possibly be water weight but none of it?
It is more than possible that the maintenance level on MFP is less than my actual maintenance calories and I'm still running a deficit. I'm going to give it another week and if I still lose then I need to eat even more to maintain.0 -
i did the exact same with cutting off calories count and gaines 10 lbs ...:(0

No.....I'm saying you didn't really put on the 11lbs you thought you hadGiven I'm eating a very simliar diet to December, just tracking it and not going over my calories please tell me how does that work? I'm not saying that some of it couldn't possibly be water weight but none of it?

Yeh, I agree, that the MFP setting for maintenance calories may still allow you to lose weight - all of these things are approximations.
Are you still above the weight you were before you went off diet over the holidays? I really do think that a lot of the rapid weight gain and subsequent loss will be to do the extra glycogen you had to store whilst you were off diet. Yes, you may be losing a little bit of fat as well, but it will be mostly water.0
