Need all the support I can get right now. I have never joined any online groups before. I thought it would be great to get support & ideas from others.
At Christmas my husband surprised me with a trip to Hawaii for Spring (March 28). When my husband proposed to me 17 years ago I weighed 50 pounds less. Since then I have had two children ages 10 & 13. I have not shed the 50lbs. I have many dreams, one of them is to travel & go to Hawaii but I always said to myself I needed to lose the weight first. Well, here I am with tickets to paradise and I am depressed because I am so over weight. I have joined a yoga & Zumba class and I am tracking (as of today). I know I can't lose 50lbs in 2 1/2 months but I would like to feel good about myself by the end of March. Any suggestions?

Welcome! Yes, you should only aim to lose 1-1.5 lbs maximum a week. So you could try and lose 15-20 lbs before your trip and will no doubt look amazing!
I just joined yesterday and also feeling ready Feel free to add me. Deborah0 -
Welcome! That's awesome that you have such a great motivation! I have ALWAYS wanted to travel to Hawaii!
My advice to you...1) Exercise every day that you possibly can. Mix it up with cardio and strength training. Zumba is a GREAT cardio class and a ton of fun. I easily burn 400-500 calories per hour. Yoga is great for toning. Those are two great classes to start with!
2) Eat lean and clean. Lean meats, lots of fruits and veggies, and very limited processed foods. You will probably drop a lot of weight the first week just by decreasing your sodium intake! 3) Drink LOTS and LOTS of water! This can't be stressed enough. It really helps your metabolism and aids your body in disposing of all the crap and toxins from your diet!
Feel free to friend me! Are you in MD as well?0 -

This was a great first step! There are a lot of people here focused on the same goals as yourself and we don't always find that out in the analog world most times. My advice is do something right away. Workout, go for a walk, restrict your calories, but whatever it is, do it now! The sooner you see the slightest bit of results, the sooner you will feel like you are accomplishing something and the desire you have at this moment with stay with you.0

Welcome! It is always good to have a short term goal, but of course you want to lose for other reasons than Hawaii. If I were you I would definitely focus on eating well and exercising between now and then but no matter what, enjoy your time in Hawaii with your husband. You will make memories that will last a lifetime. Don't ruin it by being concerned about your weight. Just do the best you can and have fun!! I lived there for four years. You will love it.0

Welcome, you can "friend"me if you like. You're on the right path to feeling better and looking better by then. You'd be surprised at the weightloss I'm sure if you stay consistent. Good luck!0 -

Yes, welcome! I've been a member on the site for a while now and, the only way I've ever lost weight is by logging onto this site daily. When I did, though, I lost 26 pounds in about 2 months and it felt GREAT!
Do what MandB301 said, definitely. She's right.
Also, make Hawaii your goal but, don't get hung up on the 50 pounds and don't stop after Hawaii. I find it helpful to remember that my weight came on one pound at a time and that's how it will come off. You will feel better when you go because you will have lost some weight by then, for sure. The first week really IS a great week, as a lot of water weight comes off. Keep going, though, too. It's such a high just feeling good every day.
Good luck! Feel free to friend, me, too. I am going to try to lose 40 pounds this year. I hope I make it! Let us know how you are doing!0 -
Thanks for all the support everyone! I was feeling down but I am now focused. I didn't realize how much support an online group would be...Fabulous!
Kitchen counter has two bowls of fruit & a pitcher of water with lemon on it, chicken roasting in oven, lettuce & spinach washed and put into Ziplocks, and butternut squash boiling on stove for soup. I totally know that losing weight is a long term goal. I have been a yoyo dieter all my life. I have probably tried every diet possible. I also know that it is all about moderation & exercise. I know what it feels like to sweat! I do love Zumba & Martial Arts. I just happen to love to cook. I love good food (not junk), but my down fall is starches. I come from an Italian family (who by the way are thin) and we make raviolis during the Holidays, bake, & drink good wine. I know, no excuses!! Bring it on...I am ready for this!! Thanks again All!0
