Food Saver

I am thinking of buying one of these this week. I start class again next week and I think it would be helpful for me to make things at home and take it for lunches instead of buying premade dinners. Does anyone have a Food Saver? What are your thoughts on it?

I have one, and honestly, I never use it. Maybe I should more, but i just don't. I find that unless I'm freezing something and wanting it to last forever (which never happens at my house), a Ziploc bag or tupperware container usually suffices. Just my experience.0

I have one and love it. I like to make a big batch of taco meat and freeze in smaller containers and then use in taco salads for lunch. Use it a lot with grilled meats (chicken breast, pork chops, steak). Grill a large package of meat and then food save/freeze in individual bags. A real time-saver!0

I use Ziploc Vacuum Bags... really cheap and sooo easy. Portion out everything in them and can freeze without fear of freezer burn!

I have one too, but I never use mine either! I should though! It would save me money and time!0

Don't waste your money on one. You can go to wal-mart & get the Ziploc vacuum bags, way cheaper & easier.0

Love mine! I use it for freezing or otherwise storing things for long periods of time. What, exactly, so you want to do with yours?0

This thing is amazing! My husband bought one and I was sceptical but we freeze all kinds of food and I forget about them and when food is low I just go in the freezer and find that food, it's just like going grocery shopping again0 -
I am also wanting to buy one if only to buy in bulk and beable to preserve it for awhile. I once had a small one not the big named one and it was a total loss as far as food and money went. This time I am holding out for the big one and no generics.0

I hear that a lot and hopefully will get one soon as we just bought a chest freezer so we could buy in bulk and save0

I would make double meals and freeze portions so I have easy lunches, and also do that for breakfast foods. I would buy in bulk and freeze it in single meal servings. I am still torn on getting it though.0 -

I use mine all the time. Buy meat in bulk and repackage it.0

I use my for freezing purposes to avoid freezer burn. I never tried the ziplock vaccum bags so I can't compare. If you want to put "saucy" stuff in there for your lunches, you would have to freeze your items first otherwise the bag won't seal. Here are my thoughts depending on what you plan to do with them.I am thinking of buying one of these this week. Seems to me that a Food Saver would be perfect for you then. One suggestion, freeze your meals before you vacuum seal them. The machines have a hard time dealing with liquids.0
