I like to look at the light at the end of the tunnel. I like to know that by ____ I will be at my half point and at ____ I will be at my goal. But I don't know what a realistic time line is. I live a pretty sedentary lifestyle being that my job is at an office 40 hours a week. I excercise regularly for about 45 min to an hour 4 times a week. I eat between 1200 and 1400 calories. Any idea how long it'll take to shed this weight? I've already lost 2 lbs in a week but most of it was water weight and readapting to a healthy lifestyle after the holidays. Plus I heard you plateu... HELP!!! Thanks.

That's great! It's important to me to really adapt a lifestyle of healthiness too... not just to get the weight off NOW!

i would say aim for about 7 pounds a month. but dont worry about weeks you dont loose that much, it works itself out if you keep eating healthy.

Definitely the slow way is the healthy way. The first time I did it I lost about 10 lbs a month. Needless to say I gained much of it back (I wasn't doing it the healthy way). I'm doing it the slow way now, but seeing as I'm making gradual and sustainable changes the chances are MUCH higher that it will stay off this time, as I'm doing things that I can now do for the rest of my life.

If you can't see yourself doing it for the rest of your life, don't do it to lose the weight. Because chances are you'll gain it back once you go back to "eating normally". The key is to make a new healthy lifestyle so that it becomes your new normal. I've known people to drop a drastic amount of weight very quickly but gained it back because they didn't want to do what they did to lose the weight for the rest of their lives.

I've lost 35 pounds in 11 weeks with 1500 calories per day and most water acquatics for exercising 3 times per week. But then I'm a lot heavier than you so I dont think our comparison would be realistic.

I only have 4.5 months to lose 40 lbs. I have done this twice before after having my kids so I know it can be done (for me at least). But it takes a lot of very hard work. I have to exercise everyday up to 2 hours and eat healthy (the calories depend on how much exercise) because 1200 calories at 2 hrs of working out isnt healthy. Lots of water, fruits and veggies, few carbs (from foods such as rice, potatoes and white bread), and portion control on protein. Good luck.
