Replacing soy sauce - HELP please!

Oy, i made my otherwise healthy dinner and was absolutely FLOORED to see my sodium sky rocket. I only used a couple tablespoons as part of a marinade and to flavour my spinach mix and my goodness the sodium even in low sodium soy sauce is horrendous. Problem is we eat a lot of stir frys and asian inspired dishes and I love using soy sauce as part of many of my marinades.

does anyone have any low sodium substitutes they have found? Or is there a flavour twin I can use to replace soy sauce?

Thanks for the help!

I love soy sauce, the only replacement I've seen or heard of is Braggs Liquid Aminos.

Edited to add I haven't tried it yet.

try adding garlic, freeze dried onion, herbs , pepper .. just stay off the soy sauce all together ..i was a sodium addict at one time . it was one of the harder things for me to get off of. when i went to fitness camp last year the one thing i learned was how much sodium was in condiments and sauces.. its crazy!!! the one thing they let us have was franks hot sauce.it has sodium in it but if you sprinkle it on food it adds a zip and helps.

KIKKOMAN low sodium soy sauce, available at walmart. Still have to take it easy with it though. It's in the data base. Check it out.

You can also get Liquid Braggs in a spray/pump bottle so you can use less than if you poured it on - the taste is similar to soy sauce, so you don't need a lot to get the flavor.
  • Definitely go with Braggs Amino Acids... tastes similar and considerably less sodium! =)
