How are you motivated

Have you figured out what you need to stay motivated. I have figured out that I need external motivation. I need people around me to be cheerleaders. I need to receive compliments. I need to receive "that a girl" or "good for you don't quit" I need someone to say "let's go for a walk".

I don't do well with setting goals and sticking with it, but if you set a goal for me I won't disappoint.

You tell me to do something and I will get it done. I have all the knowledge I need on how to lose weight I can motivate you to lose weight but I can't motivate myself. I get no satisfaction out of setting goals and reaching them. I don't care if I do. I am more concerned about disappointing someone else than myself. Its like knowing your good but only care if others know your good.

Does any of this make sense? I can compare my type of motivation style to working style. I would do it if I know the Payday is big. I work b/c I get money. The jobs I have I enjoy and make good money at it, in my opinion. I am not going to be rich but I can do what I want.

Is anyone else motivated this way. If so we should become buddies. We would motivate the heck out of each other to our goal weights.

COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER MYSELF. I'm the same way. I do it for myself, don't get me wrong. I love feeling healthy and looking better as each day goes by. But, that being said, I'm just like you. I love to hear "You look great!" "Congratulations!" "How'd you do it?!" And, of course, I LOVE telling them. I love to teach people. But...and here it is...my BIGGEST EVER motivator...COMPETITION. Head on! You WILL NOT out do me! :explode: That's what keeps me motivated. Horrible, isn't it?

So, mysterious LMB, what say you? A little friendly competition to see if we can keep each other going? How about a little motivation between friends, huh? My goal weight is 120. I am at 139 right now. The last 10 or 20 are always the hardest...

Ahmee2034, I would love to have a little competition with you but I will confess competition does not motivate me. I have never been a competative person. But I think if we keep it on a week to week basis I would enjoy it. With me its weight.

If you want to compete let see who will lose the most weight by next Saturday. Are you up for that?

glad you found what motivates you- My motivation is myself and my personal goals and seeing transformations in myself. I like pushing myself- and knowing what I want and that it won't happen with my sitting around doing nothing is enough to get me moving

I also find I need some external attention! :ohwell:
I feel stronger & healthier, but I'd really like someone to notice once in a while.
My hubby cheers me on to a certain extent, but he sees me everyday. I find that I try to keep up with him in my workouts, so I'm a little competitive, too.
I overheard him bragging on my workouts to someone else last week. That was nice.
So anyway, I'm up for some motivating support.

  • I usually need a "buddy". I don't need the compliments, I need the external motivation/competition of that other person doing what I am doing to lose weight... I need that person that says "I am going to be at the track at this time (which happens to be a time that they know I can make it because the kids are in school and I don't have any appts) to go for a run. Wanna meet me there, or are ya gonna be LAZY and sit at home waiting for your husband!? He can meet us at the track when he gets off for lunch." If I don't have someone waiting for me, I keep putting it off. And it can't be someone who is going to say let's go for a run, but then go for a run that is so slow I might as well be walking, I need them to challenge me. That is why I liked running with my husband when I was still on active duty, before we even started dating... we would run three times a week after work, he would run in front of me, then - TURN AROUND AND RUN BACKWARDS!! He would taunt me and try to get me to catch up to him, before slowing down a bit so I could catch up and run at MY good pace... but that way, I got in some small bursts of a faster pace (which is a good training method for runners). He would not let me go slow just because I was whining I was tired, I had to keep my pace up and keep trying to increase it. When I slowed down, he would ANNOY THE HECK out of me the WHOLE time!! I finally got my run time back down to a 7.5 pace before I hurt my back and got diagnosed with asthma!!

I'm motivated by my mirror, I stand in front of it naked, if I don't get sick to my stomach, i'm doing ok.

mrsyac2, I wish I could be motivated that way. I get no satisfaction from accomplishing anything. I like praise and lots of it. I have a tendancy to brag to get praise its very selfish of me but its the only thing that works.

You're on. Thanks...I was getting lazy with my workouts...:grumble:
I usually go to the gym but haven't been able to go since my son's accident. I had a gym buddy who used to get motivated the same way so we would "feed" off each other's competitive spirit. I miss the gym so much.

Anyway, what are your rules? I'm game.

Ahmee2034, How are you doing so far. Its mid week and I suck. I will be seeing the dietian today and having my yearly physical and I weigh more today than I did last year at this time. I am feeling depressed and tired. Tired of it all.

 Hey! Come on now...This is not THAT serious. It really was just for fun! :ohwell: I hope I didn't stress you out. I'd hate to be a downer for you. Remember your motto, "I AM LEAN, STRONG, & SEXY!" And you are! You have to believe in yourself. Girl, I'm not all that either so far this week. I've lost a couple pounds but I also got my visit from TOM yesterday. You're the first thing I thought about. I told myself, "She's got me!" Really, please, please, please don't get down. I want to support you and share in your success. I'm selfish! I want to be able to say I helped you when you needed it. It is kinda like my blessing. :flowerforyou:

Everything will go well today. You'll see. Just give it to God and all good things will follow. We can do this thing TOGETHER! That's why we came to these forums to begin with. What good are we to each other if we can't be there for each other in the trenches?! Come on!!!!! Pick yourself up by the resistence bands and stand tall! You can do this!:heart:

I've been stuck in place here for a couple of weeks - maybe up a pound or 2, then back down for a few days. But pretty stuck. So this week I'm sticking to my calories & carbs & exercise.

My motivation is when all my friends on myspace seem to be hitting the gym. I don't want to pay the money for a membership so I do turbo jam at home but just seeing that everyone else is so proud to be working out motivates me enough to do it and what's even better is when my bff posts that she's going for 2 hours cause then I'm even more motivated to step it up...

I am motivated by having someone that depends on me for their success. Does that make sense? If I know that for them to do good I need to do just as good or better then I'm all in for it. I suppose it makes me feel like I'm failing someone else if I don't do it. I really wish I had someone to exercise with that "needed" me to do it with them. I would be there for them in a heartbeat. As it is I have noone and I have no motivation for it. I'll count my calories and watch what I eat because my parents are doing it too and I don't want them to stop but the exercise thing is another story.

I am motiviated when I get on the scale and it has gone down again and again . . . . . also when people I haven't seen for awhile and they tell me the great things that are fun to hear. I am also addicted to my walks . . . . I crave them until I get to do them. That motivates me as that has never happened to me before . . . it is great! ! ! !:smile:
