Question about MFP and calories

When I started MFP I know they asked me how often I work out, height, weight etc to determine my daily calorie intake. What I am wondering is does MFP move the calories down on it's own as you lose the weight or do I have to go someplace and update things every so often. I haven't been really commited to this until in the last week or so but I have been on here a while and my calories are the same. I have lost 11lbs since I started this program and yet the calorie intake is the same. Will it decrease on it's own.

  • If you are updating your weight, then it should account.

I know at one point MFP asked me to update my calories to be consistent with my weight loss. And then the other week I was playing around seeing what my calories in take would be if I set it to 0.5lb loss instead of a 1lb, and then when I reverted back to my 1lb loss a week, it updated itself and took some calories off me!!

It does not update your calorie requirements automatically, you have to go in and update your 'goals'. If you change it every couple of pounds, though, the difference is so small it barely changes. Every time you lose a total of 10 lbs since the last time you updated your 'goals', MFP's system should give you a message prompting you to update your settings. If not, you can still go in and do it yourself - click on 'my home' at the top then click on 'goals', then click 'change goals'. That is how you re-set your calorie requirements to meet your current weight, and that is also how you can change your requested rate of weightloss.
