Leaning and toning up if I dont eat "clean"?

Hi friends. I've got a little "kangaroo pouch", tryin to work it out, lean and tone up. Lookin at pics a few years back I could se my abls and was a little too skinny...(I used to starve myself alot and eat like one meal a day if that), however, I have learned that I can eat right and be healthy and fit. After speaking to a friend today tho I was sad to hear that I have to eat clean. like always? Will I only lose weight and be lean if I eat this way always? I do enjoy healthy foods but I like snacks like goldfish crackers, and a piece of toast. Eating clean everyday just isnt realistic for me. If im being honest anyways. Can just watching portions, food choices and staying active be good enough? I wanna know that having a tight mid section is accomplishable but being able to enjoy life too and the occasional "goldfish"
hehe Thanks for any advice and I've only been on here a day but feel free to check out my diary whenever ya want and im open to "healthy constructive tips"
Bless yas!

I dont believe in depriving yourself of the things that you like to eat. So if you want to have some gold fish I think its okay if you write it down. If you deprive yourself you will end up eating a whole box of gold fish and then continue on an eating other things that you wanted to have but didnt allow yourself to eat. Its all about balance...finding a happy medium where you can have the foods that you like but dont overindulge. If you look at my food journal you will see a peppermint pattie, a few starbursts, ice cream at the end of the night...but you will also see how much I workout and the other foods that I eat. Ive been on the one side where I eat everything in sight because Ive been told that I cant have it because its bad for me. But I think as long as you arent overindulging and bingeing on it, its okay to have a little bit here and there. Just as long as you are recording it.
And you can still accomplish your goals at the same time!0 -
i think the biggest thing is portions. you don't have to eat clean always, you do have to find what works best for you. Eat clean 90% and allow yourself a 10% margin of error thats easy right?0

You don't have to eat "clean" whatever your definition for that it, it's the calories that matter not the food sources. Next in importance would be the macros0

There's so such thing as eating "clean." Almost any food can be included in an overall healthy diet.0

there is such a thing as eating "clean". Eating clean isnt required to accomplish health or weight loss, but it does exist.0 -

I think it depends on the person . What works for you may not work for me. I personally would have to eat clean to get my body fat down that low , so that my abs showed.0

If you can't sustain the eating habit it will do more harm than good. Anyone who tells you that there is only one way to achieve any goal is full of baloney. Myself, I have found that keeping my food intake at approx. 50% carbs, 30% proteins, 20% fats, melts away pounds as long as I am consuming fewer calories than I burn. On days where I don't have time to exercise, I keep the calories lower; when I do exercise, I get to eat more. Your body type and metabolism is probably much different from mine, so by keeping track of your intake, you'll find what works best for you. And if you need more input, by all means talk to your doctor and/or a nutritionist - people who are trained at helping you achieve the healthiest you possible.0

People who jump from one fad diet to another wreak havoc on their metabolism. People who go on super-strict diets can't stay on them forever, so after a few months they quit and yo-yo. By changing eating habits forever - rather than "going on a diet" - you are able to maintain a healthy weight. Losing weight is about getting healthy, not getting skinny. Yes, you can lose a "pooch" by eating "clean", but you can also lose it by maintaining a healthy diet and exercising properly. If you can't eat "clean" every day for the rest of your life, then you need to find out what you can do for the rest of your life.0

nonsense
if I eat clean for 21 days or 21 months and then go back to the normal western diet of convenience food etc,., I am not better off having never eaten clean for the 21 days or however long it lasts0 -
Perhaps your definition of "clean" is different from mine. When I hear "clean" diet, I think of macrobiotic non-food stuff. My diet includes lots of fresh fruit and veggies (not technically clean because they are purchased from chain grocer), beef from grass-fed cattle my sister raises, elk we hunt, fish & chicken (sadly grocery-purchased), homebaked breads and locally produced cheeses. By no definition clean, but also not filled with processed foods. Yes, there are 1-3 meals a week where we depend on some processed gack I'm too lazy to make myself (pasta for example), but overall a healthy and sustainable diet.0

ahhh...so we have similar definitions after all. To me, "clean" is no-low processing, no-low additives, preservatives, fresh as is possible depending on loccale,, etc
to truly eat totally clean is extremely hard and inconvenient and usually expensive. But I eat as clean as I can and dont buy into the "you are depriving yourself" if you dont eat some junk every day mentality.
