Childhood Obesity
Knowing that a lot of us have strong views on weight and body image concerns, I'm curious to see what you guys think about this. It's an article that I saw on NPR this morning, about a campaign that is being used in Georgia to raise awareness about childhood obesity.

At first, I wasn't sure what to think of it. I agree with the message-- childhood obesity can lead to a zillion different problems and people should take it a little more seriously-- but I think they're going about it a little harshly.
The fat kid doesn't need a billboard or a commercial to tell them that they're fat; the other kids usually do a pretty good job of it. I imagine it's tough for the parents who are blatantly being held accountable, but I understand the necessity of it. Healthy habits DO need to start at home. I love my family, but they're absolutely the reason I was obese in grade school.
I'm really glad that a portion of the money they're spending on the campaign will go towards education and taking measures to heal the psychological wounds caused by obesity. I know that the physical complications are a main concern, but I'm glad that they're also addressing the emotional end of things, because I think that's just as important.
What d'you think?

I think childhood obesity is going to become a much greater problem for all of us if we stay on the same course that we are. Its so easy to grab a quick bite to take home instead of making dinner. And since adult abesity is already rampant in this country our bad habits become the norm for our children. When I was a child we were made to go outside to play, and today the only exercise kids get is their fingers playing video games. So I think its great that the "states" are becomming involved where we as parents are not.0
