Hi. I'm training for my first 10K at the end of May. I haven't run the distance yet but hope I will be up to the job by then! Anyone else doing similar? Any tips from those of you who have been through this process?

For my training I did different things on different days. I'd run out on the road at a constant pace one day, then the next I'd do HiiT, meaning that I did intervals of 1 minute sprinting at the quickest pace I could do then jogging for 30 seconds to a minute to then sprinting again (30 secs sprint if you can't handle a minute and so on) You do this on the limit for the whole run if you can.

For me the HiiT has helped me to run at a much faster pace for much longer because now I sprint for a full 2 mins if not more, then have 30 secs to a minute off. Now when I do a 10k I can keep up quite a high pace for most of it and I don't do that much running at all.

I found that if I pick a training schedule, then I know I feel I am going at the right pace for the training, not too slow and not training too hard. Hal Higdon's website is my favourite because not only does he have training schedule for the significant distances, he has different levels of training for each distance. I picked the novice the 10k training here: http://www.halhigdon.com/training/51122/10K-Novice-Training-Program

Check it out... I'm using his novice 2 half marathon training. The schedule seems very reasonable and doesn't seem overwhelming.

Good luck with your training, I'm looking forward to your updates... keep us posted--I'm a running nerd, I love to hear about it!!

Hi. I've entered a 10k at the end of March and after completing C25K, I found the co that made the app did one for 10k as well, called bridge to 10k. It's a 6 week programme, three times a week, same format as the c25k app, except the walking intervals are much shorter! If you are new to running, they also do a 'ease into 10k' which takes longer, but I think combines the 5k and 10k programme.

    Good luck with your training!
