i want to start the 17-day-diet. Kefir is mentioned in some of the meals, but I have never heard of it, and cant find it at some grocery stores... does anyone know where I can find it? I live in AZ, so we have WM, Albertsons, Frys, and Mexican Grocers

You can find it with the yogurts. It is like a liquid yogurt. After my morning runs, make a smoothie with it. I am still going through the various flavors but I love it.

Try calling your local grocery stores and ethnic markets to see if they have it or will order it for you.

if you have a Whole Foods nearby, it looks like they have it (http://wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/all/).

It is similar in appearance to liquid yogurt, but actually is a different product and tastes different too. It has a slightly sharper taste. Diluted yogurt is called ayran and can usually be found in Turkish and middle eastern markets.

It is similar to yogurt because it is a probotic. It is better than yogurt.

You don't need to go to special grocery store to get it. I found mine at my local chain grocery store. Like I said, look for it in the dairy isle, probably near or next to the yogurts since it is a probotic.

You can actually make your own kefir. I was doing it for awhile. I bought the kefir "grains" from someone on Ebay. You put them in milk and you leave it out on your counter for a day or two. It thickens like buttermilk. You can tell its ready when it coats the side of the jar. Each time you make it the number of grains increase. Ther is a whole Yahoo group on kefir making.

There is also a company called Lifeway that makes kefir and is available in the major grocery stores. If you ask, I bet they would stock it for you.
