Any suggestions how to log this as exercise? I do high intensity interval training 3-4 times a week and have only been able to log in a few of the exercises and have had to "scale them down" in terms of naming them...I want to get a more accurate calorie burn from them as I KNOW I am burning much more than the counter says.

    Circuit training.

You can put in anything you want for the calories burned if you KNOW you're burning more. Just overtype the number.

If you are really interested in knowing your calorie burn more acurately you need to get a good heart rate monitor that shows calorie burn. Age, sex, weight, your heart rate, etc are all factors and everyone is different so averages listed on this site might not be accurate for you.

Thanks guys! I guess I will dig out that old heart rate monitor that's been hiding for the past few years some where in my kitchen....OH and I think we need to find the creator of this site and tell them to AT LEAST add burpees to their list....
  • I used my HRM tonight for HIIT. My HIIT workout is treadmill for warmup and cooldown, jog/sprint for intensity, and strength training for recovery.

Doing exactly this tonight, I burned 676 calories in only 30 minutes!!!

Treadmill warm up - 5 minutes (4.3 mph)
    Treadmill jog - 1 1/2 minutes (5.7 mph)
    Treadmill sprint - 30 seconds (7.2 mph)

    Chest Press 12 reps - 1 set (65 lbs)
Lat Pull down 12 reps - 1 set (75 lbs)
Tricep Pull down 12 reps - 1 set (35 lbs)

    Treadmill jog - 1 1/2 minutes (5.7 mph)
    Treadmill sprint - 30 seconds (7.2 mph)

Decline bench situps 15 (with 20 pound weight)
    Pushups 15
    Squats - 15 (40 lbs)

    Treadmill jog - 1 1/2 minutes (5.7 mph)
    Treadmill sprint - 30 seconds (7.2 mph)

    Military Press 10 reps - 1 set (30 lbs)
    Bicep Curls 15 reps - 1 set (30 lbs)
Bent Over Row 2 reps - 1 set (50 lbs)
Lunges 12 reps - 1 set each side (20 pound dumbbells)

    Treadmill jog - 1 1/2 minutes (5.7 mph)
    Treadmill sprint - 30 seconds (7.2 mph)
    Treadmill 5 minute cooldown

Laurie-how in the world do you do HIIT on a treadmill? Does your treadmill have an automatic program to go immediately after 1:30? I do it on a bike so I can hit max power as soon as the clock hits, but with a treadmill, it is a gradual increase in speed, which means the :30 isn't REALLY 30 seconds at the MAX MAX speed. (At least the ones in my gym work this way.) I know I couldn't do HIIT on a treadmill because I'd be one to trip on myself and go shooting off the back of the thing!
And-HOW ON EARTH do you do strength training afterwards???LOL I could hardly WALK, let alone think about doing anything afterwards. Or does this improve over time?

OK-I see you broke up the running with strength in between. I thought the whole point of HIIT was it had to be 1:30 light, :30 hard core-as fast as is humanly possible, 1:30 light, :30 hard core and so on without stopping in between for recovery for about 10, no more than 20 minutes?
  • Yes, the treadmill I use can be preprogrammed with the speeds, then you hit the button to go to that exact speed when you need it.

Trust me, my heart rate never goes below 145, unless the treadmills are all taken, then I jog in place or do jumping jacks till one is available.

You are 100% correct. Some people do 1 minute hard, 2 minutes light (level 1 on any machine) and repeat. It's not true HIIT if you can do more than 15-20 minutes of this.

I do this, I usually just log it as jogging at a certain speed and go by what the treadmill says

If you have a heart rate monitor, I would use that! I don't exercise without mine now!
