Should I do cardio when I'm tired?

I think I've pushed it too hard the last couple days trying to make up for a huge binge on Sunday. Monday my net was 739 and yesterday it was around 1045. I try not to let it go under 1200 (that's my miniumum daily goal net, maximum goal is 1350).
Now I'm exhausted and have a bad headache. I hate going back and forth between extremes, from a binge to not enough calories...
I don't want to eat any more today, not even my usual protein shake to recover after a workout. Plus it's already 8 pm.
Should I take a break today, or keep trying to work off the binge?

If it were me, I would definitely take a break today.

    Take a break!
Rest (intentional rest, not just laziness) is as important as exercise.
Listen to your body, and don't punish yourself too bad for going over

    That's my 2 cents

If you binge one day, let it go. Don't kill yourself. Your body will even itself out if your just keep going at a good pace the rest of the week. :)

Listen to your body. If you're feeling bad, you should take a break. After all, it was only one day, right?

How about EAT? No wonder you feel like crap if you've eaten well under 1200 for two days in a row. I say EAT and then wait a bit and do some cardio... maybe a bit lighter than normal, but still do both.

If you're looking to build muscle over the long term and maintain fitness levels, then overdoing it will end up discouraging you.

So, listen to your body and take a rest.

I also just looked at your profile... you're 18 and 111lbs. Your regular workout routine will take care of whatever overage you had. Get some rest!
I totally understand the getting toned and being healthy, but you're body is still developing. Take care of it!
  • Take a break. That's what I would do.

  • You need to eat more calories; point blank.

Answer honestly to yourself: If you feel lazy and you're just trying to come up with an excuse not to do cardio, then get up off your butt and do it. If you are really exhausted and tired borderline passing out, then take a break and rest. You have to be honest with yourself though.

Healthy rest and a good night's sleep is just as important to your health as eating right, drinking water, and regular exercise. Remember it's not a diet we want to strive for, it's a healthy lifestyle.

I said in the post that I don't want to eat any more today. Why eat when I'm not hungry, and when it's 8 pm? If I eat after 7, I don't sleep well and feel nauseous in the morning.

I need around 1700 calories per day to maintain my weight. So to lose weight, no, 1200 net is fine.

    I agree! Rest up girl!
  • Thanks, everyone. I'll make sure to eat all 1450 of my calories tomorrow and burn off no more than 250 so I don't repeat this extreme cycle.

Just wondering what your goal weight is??....if your goal is to lose?
i'm 5'1" and 110....and I think any thinner will look unhealthy (on me anyways) So I eat 1500-1700 a day, lots of protein, trying to gain lean muscle

A good run is often the CURE for my fatigue.

My main goal for the next few months is to lose fat, and for the rest of the year I'll be gaining muscle.
So basically, I want to lose 10 pounds (of pure fat only, I'm trying very hard to maintain my muscle) and then gain those 10 pounds back in muscle.
But those numbers are just rough estimates. I'd rather go by how my body looks and feels.

That sounds like a healthy plan!
    Good luck!

Eat something - you'll find that your body will get angry at you. have at least your protein shake = get the calories in to you. your brain and body need it to heal from working out.
Or, your body will go into starvation mode and start eating away at muscle instead of fat.

Take care of yourself.. like other posters day - if you have a bad day shake it off, and get back on track the next day... it will all work out in the end...

Sounds like a plan....I'm pretty much in the same boat, trying to replace fat with muscle. Good luck to you!
