Need help figuring out calories...

I'm wondering if someone can help me figure out the correct amount of calories I should be eating. I understand that when you add your workouts into MFP it adjusts your caloric intake for you, however, my problem is the amount of calories I burn.

For example, I try to workout 5 days a week doing activities that burn 500 calories each time. BUT, I also work in a place where I am on my feet, moving (fairly briskly) for six hours a day. I've recently started wearing a pedometer to see how many steps/miles I log and most days end up being 7,000 - 10,000 steps just at work. Therefore I'm burning an additional 300 - 400 calories from that.

My confusion comes in to play at this point. If I add those calories plus my normal daily workout in, MFP tells me I should be eating over 2100 calories a day. I have been eating more calories lately (but not over 2100!) and I'm not losing weight. So I'm wondering what a realistic caloric intake number is for me or the best way to figure it out. Anyone with suggestions?

I'd log your workouts but not your extra steps. Those are taken into account when you set your activity level.

And yeah, you could lose at 2000 calories. I did over the summer. My maintenance, without exercise, is about 2250.

use this calculator, you can account for activity for every minute of the day, I really like it :)
  • It's hard to tell with so little info, just find an online calculator & follow the number of calories it gives you. I know most calorie calculators online are different & quite innacurate, but I found one a while ago on http://www.fatcuda.com & does a nice job. Apart from giving you the amount of calories, it stores them for you for next time so all you have to do is change your weight.
  • As the second post says, adjust your activity level accordingly if your are on your feet all day. MFP will then adjust your calories to include this burn.
