Sodium?

I go over my sodium most days and I was just wondering if I should worry too much about it? I don't have high blood pressure or any condition where I should watch it, but I try to stay under the specifications that MFP has set for me. I was just wondering if this could sabotage my diet or my health if I keep going over it everyday? It's not always a lot over, but some days it is. Opinions please and thanks!

Hi, I was curious about the whole sodium thing too when I started. Most suggested I go with what MFP recommended and see how my weight loss goes then adjust it as needed especially if I find I am not loosing anymore.0

Great, I'll try that too. Thanks!0

My personal experience is the days, I go over my sodium my weight loss slows down, I think mainly because it makes me retain water! I don't think its a health issue though0

Im not saying this to get any one paranoid or worried, just a bit of perspective, I have a coworker that had a heart attack and his daily max limit is 600 !! I dont have high blood pressure or any other conditions that im aware of, so I take the daily limit MFP set and try to stay under. I dont always, I do go over from time to time, I just drink extra water that day and the next couple of days following. Staying under... its not hard really, just dont add salt to foods you make, learn how to use seasonings and spices. Stay away from overly processed foods like KD, cheese slices, cheese spread, salami, packaged deli meats(naturals that are preservative free are ok) canned soups, soup powders you get the idea. I try to read labels, watch out for "low fat" they often add salt or sugar for flavor.
i wouldnt stress to much about it, just keep in mind that it will cause water retention, and I have heard Jillian Micheals say more than once to watch your salt intake when trying to lose weight.
I am here to re-learn good eating habbits, eating proper salt amounts is part of that learning process. Im still working on it, I do love my salty food.0 -
Checkout this from Canada:

As you are young, reducing (or keeping low) your sodium intake reduces the long term possibility of hypertension (high blood pressure) and other cardiovascular disease.
With regards to weight, high sodium consumption encourages the body to retain water. Thus you will weigh more.
My experience is that when I keep my sodium under 2000mg and I drink lots of water it is much easier to lose the lbs!0 -
