Everyday on my food counter I go over in Fiber.
Is this bad? If so, what will it do to me? :|

How many grams total are you getting? Generally 25 grams is a good goal. I think MFP is kind of low.

Worst thing that can happen is you'll have a lot easier times going potty

Yesterday, I totaled at 22g - only going 1 over.
Today, I'm at 17g - WITHOUT eating dinner.
& it already says I'm one over.
It only wanted me at 16g today?

Hahaha, I have no problem with that.
BTW, Mr. Mario, saw you on the site earlier and sent you a friends request :)

I'm not sure it is possible to get too much fiber, as long as you are eating a diet with enough variety to get proper nutrition.

MFP calculates a percentage based on how many calories you consume in a day so it will vary from day to day with your calories. It won't hurt you to go over in Fiber.

Too much fiber can cause a build up of gas and some rather unpleasant stools...

I thought we were supposed to have more fiber then MFP says but not sure.

I'm thinking I have a pretty good variety. I also went over 8g in protein yesterday. :|

Ah, okay, thank you! I was so confused as to why it only said 16g of Fiber today.

There is a such thing as too much fiber....but 16g is too low... I aim around 25..I tend to get 25-35 grams a day...

One day I got up to 55 grams....let's just say it wasn't a pleasant day for my tummy....or anyone in the immediate vicinity

We were just talking in nutrition class about how the human body is engineered to run on a high fiber diet. Unless it's REALLY excessive you should be fine. I usually eat over 30 grams a day with no problems.

okay, good to know! I'm always over in both as well but never by more than 10 grams!

Hahahaha! Awww. I'll aim for 25 today then, I knew 16g wasn't right!

I tend to go way over for fiber and haven't had any problems yet. I'm not a doctor so I can't say for sure if there are any long-term issues (though I don't think so), but I regularly get 28-35, and have even hit 40+ before.

You really can not get too much fiber. Infact most vegans get about 55-65g of fiber each day. I would not worry about going over. I go over every single day. That is one column it's just fine to go over in! I think mfp has that in there so people can gage and see if they are gettingt enough, not to see if they are going over, it's just not the best layout of measuring your fiber intake.

I would like to add more low-cal high fibre items - does anyone have any tips?

Too much fiber can cause belly cramps due to excess gas (can also feel like heartburn) and can also cause flatulence. However, if your diet has always been high in fiber then it shouldn't cause you too much problem. Too much fiber, at least dietary wise, I don't believe is bad for you. It helps a person to feel full and also helps to keep a person normal. Usually people just starting to eat healthy (i.e. adding more fruits and veggies and more grain breads & crackers vs. just white bread and crackers) are the ones who experience the most discomfort due to their bodies not being used to the excess fiber - in that instance it is better to slowly introduce the extra fiber over the course of a few weeks.

I have my fiber goals set at 35 gms, but I consider 50 gms optimal. And it's not why you think--I'm not bogged down like the Activa commercials gently say. I like this amount of fiber because it's filling, and each gram of fiber represents 4 calories your body can't use. So, for example: if you eat 22 grams of fiber that means 88 calories of your total leave your body without being processed as calories your body could store.
  • I have changed my goal to 25g and I still usually go over. Fiber helps clean and clear everything out and it also makes you feel full for longer.

Kashi items are what contributes to most of my Fiber.
I had Kashi oatmeal this morning, sosososo good.
I also had 1/4th cup blueberries = 1 gram of fiber.
aaaand 1/4th cup strawberries = 1 gram of fiber as well.
So I got 9 grams in a small breakfast. :D

Natures Own - 100% Whole Wheat Thin Sliced Bagels are only 110 calories,
I make my sandwiches on them, and they pack 6 grams of fiber for just one bagel.
I also add Romaine lettuce to my sandwiches, which also has fiber! :)

This explains so much. Since I have started my diet it is always high in fiber, and I have no problem feeling full, I haven't been over-eating at all! I love it though! Yay for Fiber!

I have my full daily requirement (based on MFP) pretty much secure before I move on to lunch... yesterday I had 68 grams of fiber - and MFP suggested 27 was good...

Yesterday is mostly representative of my fiber intake... I like it that way. High fiber = mucho ruffage = good bathroom habits = no crap hanging around in your intestines and colon.

To me, who has been to the doctor for crap pinned to my colon like graphiti spray painted on New York City walls, this is a GOOD (very very good) thing!

Believe me, when that stuff starts sticking and not releasing, the pain is measurable like this: 1000 x your worst period cramp (women) or 10000 x your worst gas pain. And I would be doubled over and fall to the ground... and that would happen multiple times a day, multiple days a week, multiple days a month... not every week for sure, but OH MY! I will eat more fiber than anyone suggests ALWAYS!

Fiber and protien are good...they keep you fuller longer and it would take a darned lot of fiber to OD on it. Both soluable and insoluable fiber are essential to keep things moving and keep the colon healthy. Once your body is done digesting the nutrients from your intake, the only thing left is the toxins, sugars, and other bad things. This means you want to get excess waste out pronto. Gas can be counteracted by getting a good probiotic...you should be getting about 3-5 billion CFU (colony forming units) per day. Unless you have really bad diahreah or an issue like GERD or IBS, you are fine with lots of fiber. Quite frankly, I stopped tracking mine becuase MPF is way to low on fiber and protien requirements

Too much is way more that 25. You should be fine. The more fiber you eat the better your body handles it too. A high fiber diet clears cholesterol from your blood, reduces your risk for colon and breast cancers and helps you feel full longer. It's a good thing to have in your diet.

I like to look at it this way: generally speaking, the foods that are high in fiber are the foods that we should be consuming the most of...fruits, vegetables, whole grains, etc. There really isn't such a thing as too much fiber, although as a few have already mentioned, if your body is not accustomed to consuming higher levels of fiber, there CAN be some rather...unpleasant side effects. These are typically temporary until your body adjusts.
