How many calories do we lose as we age?

So, with a passing birthday, I am curious as to how many calories we lose as we age. So, for example, at my height; 5'11", how does my allotment of calories differ from someone who is, say, 21 and is of equal height. I am now 39 (erm, and holding!
). This is not factoring anything in -- no exercise. Just how many calories have to do with age. Anyone have any insight?
Thanks... just curious...

I went here http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/
Put in 5'11, 150 lbs and 40 and it gave me 1453 calories
I then changed the age to 20 and it gave me 1547 calories.0 -
our metabolisms are meant to slow down in theory but that doesn't account for medical conditions that might speed it up or slow it down or I'd image an healthy 60yr old who works out would have an higher metabolism than a 21 year old is like 10st overweight and lies on sofa all day watching telly, eating and sleeping!
I have under active thyroid from birth when I was active child I was always thin as doctor kept me on high dose so as not to stunt development.. when I started having mobility problems and was ill it slowed down (age 33) when the involuntary muscle twitches kicked in as part of my neurological condition it is actually higher now than it used to be.. I'm now 42!
I've reached stage i don't have to count calories i just eat healthy and my body is always moving one way or another unless I'm fast asleep so lose at least a 1lb a week (except for TOTM it doesn't show cos of temp water gain) At the minute I'm using my situation to my advantage until I reach my goal weight... then the challenge will be trying to maintain and not going to far underweight.
I guess for the averge sedentary person, their metabolism will slow as they age.0 -

Well, as I age, apparently I don't get any smarter--I'm not sure why I didn't think of doing that!! Thank you!! :laugh:0
