working in a place 99% male has it's disadvantages.

ok - hilarious (maybe only to me) story cut short as i can

~ i have a stalker at work - a weird guy i accidentally befriended by saying "hi" to

~ i was working new years day, no one here. i hear someone walking HOURS into day and stand up out of curiosity. It's stalker in the process of walking INTO my cube.

~ i apparently scared the crap out of him, he muttered something and then BOLTED back to his desk (he sits FAR away from me)

~ i think, weird, but okay.

~ then, wtf was he doing walking into MY cube? (we are not on same team)

~ the next day, it's suggested he was t-bagging my things.

~ i'm grossed out and feel the need to disinfect

~ all the boys think this is hilarious

~ i get an instant message to stand up

~ i stand up and look at the guys about 6 rows away from me. Stalker boy is walking by and they all (3 managers included) are all standing up in their cubes shaking tea bags at me.

Uhm...I would be thinking of filing sexual harassment charges or at least a complaint with some body high up.
    That is not acceptable.

Do you think this behavior is funny? You're okay with making those kinds of jokes with an office full of men, including managers? Shame on those managers, by the way.

He may have just been looking to see if you have a significant other (e.g., looking for pictures of you with a bf or hubby). Unless he was struggling with his trousers when you caught him, I doubt he was doing anything sexual.

    Maybe start calling him Tetley?

But why would someone even do that? I can't imagine how f-d up I'd have to be to do that.

Wait - superglue. You need something that might entice him to bag it, and put a few drops on there. He doesn't happen to have a bowling ball fetish, does he?

ok... i admit that i'm LMAO.

but, honestly, if it bothers you, you have to draw a line before you can talk to HR. might i suggest leaving a webcam on?

I would first try to find out why this weirdo is coming to your cube when you're not there.

Then I would laugh it off................if it really, really bothered you, you WOULD have gone to a higher-up and said something, right?

But if it's intended to be a joke (in bad taste, but what they hell, they're GUYS ;) then go with it, and play one back on them.

    be creative :smokin: :smokin:

    OMG funny.

I totally get you on the non sexual harassment thing. When you work in a male dominated place, you just get used to it. Good old boys club and all.

I used to work in a frat house, or what passed for one. Predominately male, most younger than me. You can either go with the flow, which means you will hear things that would turn most HR departments bright red, or you tell them to cut it out. If they are adult professionals, most will understand and make an effort. I found that most of it I could deal with. When it got out of hand I gave them the timeout sign and they would continue it elsewhere.

If you truly mean stalker though, and aren't using the term in jest, then I also suggest a trip to HR or your manager at the very least.

If "just happens" because not only are women oppressed by patriarchy, women are oppressed by OTHER WOMEN who support the patriarchy to be accepted by the patriarchy...

If you find it hilarious then it's hilarious (I personally think it's pretty funny provided you don't feel uncomfortable)
But if you find it even slightly uncomfortable-making, even the tiniest bit, you don't have to pretend it's 100% funny.

Problematic can be funny but it's still problematic and harrassment goes a lot deeper than most people realize.

And this is why we get along lol Its hard to offend me.. its pretty much impossible, a few of the guys I work with were being all nicey nice and PC when I first started working here... now not so much lol Except they wont let me use the shop bathroom because there is a naked woman drawn on the door... no matter how much I try to make them see it wont offend me they have even went as far as putting up a "No Girls Allowed" sign on a bathroom that is clearly marked for both men and women lol

in that case, may i reiterate the sneaky webcam? here we have the "roving webcam" no one ever knows when they're on camera. it's pretty dam funny!
  • if you are offended by the action, i would report it to HR and they should be able to quietly put a stop to it. If you are not offended, but it still annoys you, ask them to stop. A lot of times the people involved do not realize it can be perceived in a way to be considered harassment.

nah. it's not something that "just happens". I give it right back - we're all equals. I promise. I was not the least tiny bit not happy with this.

Kind of funny (or totally not) ~I~ was taken to HR for sexual harrassment back in the day. that sucked.
