I know in the exercise database I see things like cooking and cleaning. Do you log these and things like these?

No, but then I pay someone to do the cleaning so that would be silly for me. I suppose if I broke a sweat (from something other than heat from the grill) when cooking I might log it.

I don't usually. The exercises on MFP already overestimate calories too much in my opinion, but even more I like the surprise I get at the end of a weigh-in. If I only log the intentional exercise I do, I find that the little things I do everyday or around the house are a nice boost at the end of the week. I don't know how much or if its significant, but mentally it makes me push harder not seeing the added 100 calories that could be another snack when I didn't really EARN it

No, don't log that stuff. That's figured in when you set your level of activity.

No. I consider that to be a part of everyday life. They didn't make me skinny before so logging them just to get extra calories isn't going to make me skinny now! :)

No, but then again I rarely get my heart rate up very much or for very long cleaning...and I was doing it while I gained weight, so its not something new I'm doing now.

No..... I cooked and cleaned before I started trying to lose weight and I got fat in the process, so therefore those things are just included in my every day activities. For example, I don't log sitting at my computer typing, walking to the mailbox, driving a car, going to the bathroom, brushing my teeth, taking a shower, etc..... these things all burn calories, so by the same logic I could log them???? If it's something you always do and have always done don't log it.

A good rule of thumb that I use is to only log exercise and every thing extra can be considered a bonus!

No I don't - any benefits I get from doing cooking cleaning I just see as a bonus.....To me I only log real exercise - where I go out (or at home), put my exercise gear on and get my Heart Rate up!!

Occasionally (well too often) I get my HR up when cooking - but that is normally when I am burning something (or myself....)

Actually, my activity level is set to sedentary so when I do a whole house clean with vacuuming, mopping floors, cleaning bathrooms, dusting, etc. I'm definitely not being sedentary. I tracked it once with my HRM and it was a several hundred calorie burn. So while I don't log cooking or my everyday cleaning of the kitchen and picking up of the world I do log my weekly house clean.

YES, because I am usually sedentary. Whenever I put a lot of effort into anything, especially cleaning I'll log it. I say that because I hate to clean and when I do it's a huge deal. My husband is the one who cleans. I wouldn't log cooking though. I don't know how one burn calories by cooking. My son is a chef and he just laughed when I asked him about the cooking. LOL

I think it depends on how you set your activity level and how intense the cleaning etc. is and how regularly you do it.

I'm set to sedentary, so I log anything that isn't sitting on my bum for 8 hours a day, but I underestimate it to cover for MFP's overestimation i.e. I clean for two hours, log one hour. And I don't clean very often! :blushing:

Personally, being more active is my goal and I don't see any difference between things that are designated 'exercise' like walking down the road and things that aren't like walking around the mall. It's still burning calories!

A heart rate monitor could give a more accurate idea of calories burnt doing various things, but I'm not that fussed.
