Please read diaries before commenting

If you're going to comment on diaries please read them first. I'm on holidays and can't control my eating (coach of a sports team and meals are set for the team) but I've been logging at zero and making a note of 'not logged' I've had about twenty comments of 'well done', 'wtg', 'great work!' Clearly just commenting on the diary and not reading.
There are people on here with issues who don't need encourgment when they're not eating right. If you want to comment go for it, but it's probably better if you read what's being logged.

^ I was wondering the same...0 -
Just so I can make sure I'm logging in every day.0

I always read before I comment. I do not want to congratulate people for eating 700 calories.0

Your days logged in will count even if you don't log your food or close out your food diary for the day, FYI.0

Logging into the site doesn't requirw closing your diary.0
-
MissFit I am aware of that but it's just to make sure I'm doing it. If I just log in I'm not 100% sure if I've done it. By physichally closing the diary and typing 'Not logged' I am making sure I'm logging in0

No, sometimes when you see somebody is under, that's reason enough to give a WTG!
We all don't need to know the details - just the general gist, and some do actually take a quick peek when we have time.0 -
You do not have to close a diary for the log in to count. Just log in here or on your phone and you are good.0
-
Haha...I've felt the same way before. Or I'll look at someone else's diary after people have commented "WTG" or "GOOD JOB" and the person logged like 1 VERY HIGH CALORIE/FAT meal...I'm like really? LOL So I usually comment something snarky....but that's also why people friend me because I'm brutally honest0

Is there something advantageous about closing out days that you do not log food?0 -
I think its nice when people encourage others, so I don't think we should be criticizing them for not looking at diaries.0
-
Yes! So often people are high fiving people eating less than my 2 year old!0

When you have 100+ friends and you spend a lot of time keeping up with and commenting on their progress, it's difficult to read each and every diary, every day.
Rather than to expect all of your friends to look at your zero diary everyday, better that you stop closing it out.0 -
I appreciate and welcome feedback...even if I haven't done well. Encouragement keeps me trying. This is a site for support. Make your diary private. Then nobody sees what you eat, but if you have MFP 'friends' on here..expect them to support you and comment. Otherwise, delete your friends and try to do this alone. Sounds like you only want to pull out your "friends" and use them when it's convenient for you.
I"m not trying to sound mean...just stating the facts.0 -
Yeah, just remove it from your feed in http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/news_feed_settings
Then no one will know, no one will comment.0 -
you're seriously complaining about encouragement? *sigh*0

Does just 'logging in' count for anything?
Shouldn't you strive to log in your food, whether good or bad, to make that conscious effort to do better, be healthier and lose those unwanted pounds??
Just sayin'....0 -
I agree. Because telling someone way to go, just because they are under their calorie goal, isn't always a good thing. I see people with diaries where they only ate one not so great meal a day, and of course they were under their calorie goal, but they only ate crap, and not enough of it. They definitely need some other encouragement besides "Way to go!" They need someone to ask them if they are feeling alright, or something.0
-
I should add that maybe the OP is misunderstanding her MFP friends. By saying "good job" they may just mean "good job logging on today".0
-
They are not just talking about themselves but in general. Their point being if you do not look you may be congratulating someone on being anorexic.0

Feel free to send those lying sacks of shoes to my page lol i need as many "WTG'S" as i can get!0

But what is encouraging or "validating" if the person knows their diary is actually *kitten* for the day but because of lack of logging or lack of eating properly they're "shown" under their calories for the day so people blanket comment..."good job" ? It just goes to show people are not truly taking an interest in the diary and giving empty compliments. At least from my perspective.0 -
Do you honestly think that posting this to the message boards is going to motivate people to behave any differently? If you personally don't feel you deserve praise for your diary, then don't complete the diary so that it won't post on your news feed.0

I feel the same. I am not going to congratulate someone for not eating enough calories nor am I going to congratulate someone who is under their calories but has a private diary.
"Congratulations" and "Way to go's"are saved for those who made healthy choice, not because they stayed under their calories.0 -

So then maybe instead of the OP posting a passive aggressive topic about her MFP friends, she should just confront them directly and delete them if she finds their compliments empty... I think we could go back and forth on this subject. If she were my MFP friend, and I stumbled upon this topic knowing it was about me, meh, I'd delete her. No time for that.0 -

I have one friend who is doing the HCG diet, I don't agree with it but I do encourage her to hang in there. I do not comment on folks who keep their diary secret and have deleted friends that routinely eat poorly (like well under 1200 on a routine basis). I am only going to encourage people that I know are doing it right. I have lots of eating disorder friends and they appreciate the honest response to their diary, so do I.0
