Anyone else annoyed by this? Oh, just me??? okay....
I don’t know why I even notice this because it’s so silly, but I just do….
I hate when I’m in a restaurant scanning the menu for something healthy and on certain entrées I see qualifiers such as “Guiltless” or “Fit and Trim”. I don’t know why it irritates me…. I guess because I know how to order a healthy meal without assistance and so ordering the “Fit and Trim” (when I’m not fit and trim) salmon and veggies just makes me feel like I’m fat.:grumble: It’s like I’m ordering from a category and therefore placing myself in that category. I realize some people may need help in deciding what on the menu is healthy, so I do get it; I just hate the cutesy little names attached. I’m not saying it should change, just wanted to express my feelings.
Anyone else have this weird thing going on?

We have to realize not everyone knows what is healthy. Just from being on mfp I can see how little some people know about healthy eating.0

If all the other options are 1000 calories and skyhigh sodium, I don't really care where I find the healthy stuff on a menu. I just wish places would have more interesting options than "fish with dill and lemon."0

Go for the sirloin steak, never fails.0

It's not always about knowing what's healthy, though. There are items on menus that if I made them myself would be VERY healthy, but the restaurants often use a lot of butter and oil (just check the NI of the "steamed" broccoli at Ruby Tuesday), so there's more fat and calories in something than one would think.
Those qualifiers on the menu are helpful. Like, Friday's has one that tells you the meal is under a certain number of calories. I was surprised at the menu items that didn't fit into that category and surprised at some that did. And I DO know nutrition pretty well.0 -
My ex-father-in-law told me and ACTUALLY believes that a supreme pizza is a healthy meal..... he will eat a large by himself. He said that you have meat, veggies, dairy, and bread. He also thinks that bluberry pie (half of one) is acceptable because it has fruit....... He wonders why he is so heavy and diabetic with high blood pressure and cholesterol. :noway:
So some people truly need the clarification on what is healthy and what isnt.0 -
OP, I hear you. Consider your feelings validated. At my favorite breakfast place, I often order the "lo-fat" and find it annoyingly named. But it's a tasty meal & a healthy one, so I order it anyway.0

I concur - it is irritating. It feels like one is being condescended to, which I LOATHE! Doesn't stop me from ordering it if it's the thing that I want/feel fits my daily calories best, but I do find it annoying. Another word I detest is 'opt', as is "Opt for low-fat choices such as..." in the remarkably patronising, simplistic brochures that are often printed by health companies et al.0

Yes! The word Opt in that context drives me crazy as well.0 -
I was talking about the wordage everyone..... not what to order.
You can name it a cutesy name all day long and it still may not help. I'd prefer the actual calories to be displayed... at least as an estimate.
Thanks for the responses.0 -

This is funny because a lot of people say that pizza contains all the major food groups, which is true. By that logic it IS healthy:laugh:
Another example of how misguided we are at times!!0 -

Everything can be healthy *in moderation*. I have pizza rather frequently but I make it fit my calories and I don't eat the whole thing at once.0 -

This I totally agree with!!!! The "guiltless" meals drive me nuts. So when I am on a night out and want to order something as a splurge, should I feel guilt?0 -

Moderation is not a word in his vocabulary. As I said, a whole pizza and half a pie. His typical dinner is a plate sized steak (a really fatty one) and 3 microwaved hashbrowns with butter and salt on everything....... It is silly to watch.0 -

Yeah ... wordage is an issue. But that's marketing.0 -

According to the US Congress, Pizza is a vegetable...0 -

If so, I want to eat with ex pops.0
