I am hopeful that this is going to help keep me accountable. I have so much weight that I need to lose that I dont know how I got here! I remember being in high school and saying that I would never let my 125 pound self be heavier than 150 pounds. Well I passed that mark by my second year of college and have sailed far beyond it at this point. I weighed in at 184 pounds. Which means to get to my goal wight in need to lose 50 POUNDS! That is so much I have a long road ahead. Just so everyone knows I did what no dieter should ever do when they are determined to start a diet tommorrow. I sat on the couch all day, ate horribly and thought about how fat I am. Well I hope that got it out of my system. My goal for today is to go to the gym, and cancel cable. Ugh I love watching tv, I think this is giong to really tie me into this commitement. I also hope that it will support, this so called lifestyle change that everyone says you need to keep the wight off. Well im going for it!! Wish me luck

Good luck! and don't worry, you aren't alone. I have over 100 pounds to lose. Slow and steady, and it'll all come off!

TV is all reruns now so you won't be missing much. 50 lbs is very attainable. I had 150 to lose and I am 1/3 of the way there. I figure by this time next year, I will look awesome!

If I can do it, you can. I was the biggest couch potato going.

Good luck, I too need to lose about that much. I know it can seem overwhelming but just keep pushing on no matter what and you'll reach your goal! :flowerforyou:

Good job! It's hard to set a tough goal.
After having kids, I thought I would never take off the weight. I too said I would never let myself get so overweight. I topped out at 220 at the end of both pregnancies, and contrary to what some people say, it doesn't just "come off" for many of us. Exercise helped with a lot of the weight, but I found myself stuck at about 162 (still exercising 5-6 days a week!)
I finally started counting calories. I thought I had been eating okay, but it turns out I was probably consuming 2000-2500 calories a day. I think my perception of calories had gotten skewed over the years. Once I cut the calories back, the pounds practically fell off. The online calorie counter has been my savior!
Since the end of February, I've lost 20 pounds! I'm wearing clothes that haven't fit since before I got married--that's been about six years! People I know can't believe it. They all keep asking me what I'm doing, and I just say "watching my calories."
It won't be long and you'll be seeing results.
Again, Congratulations on starting your new healthy life!!!!!

I'm in the same boat, I started gaining weight when I got serious in my relationship with my highschool sweetheart I weighed 180 my sophomore year in highschool. 195 my junior year. 220 my senior year. and got up to 240 this year as a freshman in college. I started trying to workout and diet and lost ten pounds but i had no set routine and right as my will power was starting to fade I found this sight. That was almost 3 weeks ago and I'm down 10 pounds and back to 220. My goal is to get back to 180 before christmas this year, but if things keep up this way i'll reach that way before then. Just wanted you to know your not alone, 50 pounds sounds like alot but when you take it a pound at a time its not hard at all.

Good luck with your weight loss! I know for me that a gym membership never works. I convince myself that I'm paying this money so that should make me go, but I always find excuses. It's too far, they are not open early/late enough, too many people, low on gas, it's raining, etc.
What helped me was P90X! I was home sick one day and ran across an infomercial, and what caught my attention was Tony Horton saying "This is tough! This is not some get slim quick program! It's hard work, but if you put in the effort, you will have results!" It's a 90 DVD program, that mixes things up, so it doesn't get boring. And what really sold me was the 90 day money-back guarantee!! Heck, I've tried the DVD thing before, as well, and it didn't really help, but if I can do the whole program and still get my money back...why not! For the first couple of weeks, my wife laughed at me trying to workout in the living room, then she stopped laughing when she noticed it was working!! You couldn't take my P90X from me if you tried now!! My wife tried it, but it didn't really fill her needs, so we ordered her the 10 Minute Trainer. They are 10 minute workouts that she can fit in before or after work, and she says that she can always find 10 minutes somewhere to fit in her workout. It's really worked for her so far.
If you are interested in seeing my results so far, and maybe trying out some of the Beachbody products, go to http://www.GetTheBodyYouWant.info and check it out.
    Good luck!

Welcome to MFP and although it may seem like you have a long journey ahead of you really just by taking the first step you are well on your way. And you are not alone.

I went from 255 to 180. It was slow, started summer of 2007 and I still have a few more pounds to go but the point is that eating healthy and working out really does work. Don't think of this as a diet it is a new lifestyle for you.

In terms of what specifically will work best for you, you will have to find that out on your own. Personally I found that going to the gym really helped me. Too may distractions at home. I hired a trainer to teach me how to work out and knowing I had to go see him was the motivation I needed to get my behind out the door. I no longer have a trainer (too expensive) but I do still work out at the gym, and on my exercise bike at home and I have recently started running.

Good luck and we are all hear to provide encouragement and support!:flowerforyou:

Just think.. when you cancel cable.. it will give you a little extra money each month.. which will be good for payin for your gym/fitness sessions or some home work out equipment...AND obviously for sum new clothes as the weight starts dropping off!!!

Good luck and welocme once again to MFP!

You will do great this time. Keep your mind in the right setting. This site does help a lot, especially when counting your calories and fat are so important.
I would suggest putting this page as your homepage so everytime you sign in, this will pop up. Then you will be able to keep track of your calories much easier.
    Good luck.
