Birthday present

Okay, I have a question, I freely admit I don't know everything (it took a while to recognized and accept this).

I've been together with my fiance for over three years now, we got engaged the day before Thanksgiving last year (2011).

My question is, is a weekend get away a good birthday present or is it one of those things that's expected to happen anyways? We try to go on mini-vacations once a year and take several day trips throughout the year, but since I got my second job we just haven't been able to (over 6 months now).

I was planning a two-day trip, staying in a nice bed and breakfast and painting the town in a place completely foreign to us. Sounds nice to me but, is it nice *enough* for a birthday??

I would absolutely love it, personally. Far more than a material object. Memories are the best presents! :)

Great gift! Maybe a small present wrapped on her pillow would be a nice extra :-) But I'd totally be thrilled with a weekend getaway, sure!

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking.
  • Hi,
Its a lovely romantic gesture and of course its enough.
Other things you could do .. (if you wanted to)
Maybe get some flowers for the room, nothing expensive, just something bright and fun.
Also, something personal, maybe slip a little note/card/personal pressie under her pillow for her to find at 'bedtime'

    Have a great time xxx

Totally amazing bday present! As someone else mentioned I'd get a little something for her to open as well, but the trip will definitely score points!

Yes but definitely get her something too. Either before the trip and present it to her OR if she sees something she loves while you two are exploring, buy it for her

I was thinking about buying her something smaller for her actual birthday, I just need to figure out what!

I've been married for six years (not a lifetime, I know) and I have to say I'd love to get an "experience" gift like that. I'm sentimental, though, and I always appreciate something tangible to remember the trip by. Maybe while you're there, you can buy/find/make her something small to remember the trip by.... a framed photo, a thoughtful souvenir, etc.
  • You kill me dude. Seriously.

YES! We've decided to get a Christmas ornament from every place we visit!
  • That would be a great birthday present. I agree with the others about a nice little something to open on her birthday would be nice also. Or a nice little surprise later in the year that she would not be expecting.

Let me rephrase my earlier post...even though it was a Groupon, I think it's a GREAT and very sweet idea! I wasn't trying to call you out, double promise. :) I just recognized the building because I would love to own a house that looked like that, it's gorgeous and romantic of you to want to whisk her away for a romantic weekend!

What is this *weekend getaway* that you speak of.......

I would LOVE it! It would be nice to have something for her to actually open on the birthday though. And, since you found a groupon, you could do something like that! For me though, I have never been anywhere on a romantic getaway and would prolly pee my pants a little if I was able to. My birthday is next weekend if you wanna send ME to Michigan...... wait..... no...... not Michigan. Too cold. Maybe Key West?

Personally, I would rather trips (any place) over gifts any day. The memories made there will last forever, while most times you can't remember the gift your significant other gave you the last birthday. The place looks amazing. Be sure to plan something special (massage (given to each other), candle lit dinner, or something romantic just for the two of you).

Y? jealous you didn't think of that first?
  • My husband and I stayed at a B&B for our 2nd wedding anniversary, it was so romantic and I LOVED it! Our room had a big tub with jets, which of course I put way too much bubble bath in and flooded the bathroom with foam... Call them ahead of time and see if they have any specials, like a nice turn down service. We went to dinner and when we got back to the room there was a tray with dessert and champagne waiting for us.

She will love it! Surprise her with a small token of your affection and she'll be putty in your hands
