Do you tend to lose inches, weight or both when doing an exercise like 30DS or circuit training? I'm thinking when I do more straight cardio, I might see a bit more weight loss. Does that seem true? I'm thinking of doing 4-6 days of 30-45 minutes of cardio (walking, jogging, biking) and doing 30DS or circuit, above and beyond that. I typically do whatever I'm in the mood for or have time for, so I wonder if I'm getting enough cardio. I also do Zumba twice a week- that's cardio, correct?

most tend to loose inches.... if you have quite a bit of weight to loos you may be lucky in loosing pounds too. i didn't loose very much of anything after the whole 30 days... 1 inch off my waist, hips and belly each and 2 lbs :( I am re doing the 30ds again and i do 20-30 min cardio before it, then the dvd every single day.

The weightloss is all about the caloric deficit - if you use exercise (i.e. the Shred) and/or calorie restriction to create a moderate deficit, you will lose weight. With the Shred you will probably lose inches even if you don't lose much weight. I do not burn a large amount of calories doing the Shred - usually around 200 calories per 27 minute session (I have a HRM that I wear while working out) - bigger people do burn more calories and may be able to create a larger deficit using just the exercise, but if you're really looking to drop lbs you'll need to continue to stick close to the MFP calorie goal you were given for weigthloss. (although you can eat back some of those exercise calories if you wish - I did and my weightloss has stayed right on target with what I told MFP I want to lose) It took me 37 days to complete the 30 Day Shred (had to take a few breaks for pain and also for travelling), I lost 5 lbs (which is actually more than I was trying to lose - I was only going for about 1/2 lb per week during that timeframe), I also lost inches on every part of my body including 2" off my butt/hips and 2" off my belly at the navel (those are the biggest ones, I lost inches everywhere though). :-) The thing about doing the Shred or any workout that has you working with weights and resistance is that it is working your muscles in ways that cardio cannot, that's why you lose more inches even if you don't lose as much weight, and it's actually really great for your body. You can definitely add in extra cardio on top of doing the Shred if you like. I did. Some days I did the Shred plus some time on the treadmill, a couple of times when I was hurting bad enough that I needed a break from the Shred I did just the treadmill for exercise that day, then I got to the point where I was Shredding 2 or 3 times in a row b/c I liked the results I was seeing from that better than the results I'd gotten from being on the treadmill for months before I started doing the new workout. Now that I've gone through it 1 full time, now I alternate different types of workouts on different days, although I'm doing a lot of Shredding still b/c my DH is going through it and I like working out with him. :-)

Thanks for your comments. I'm still thinking it won't hurt to add more cardio to see what happens anyway. I'm probably getting impatient again. Seems my weigt loss is averaging 2-3 pounds per month and I have lost inches too. I'm just hoping to boost that up a little. I guess some progress is better than none. :-)
