I've been struggling the last couple of weeks, but especially this week. Last week I had one day where I really over ate. So far this week, I've done it three days in a row. I know I'm eating my emotions (or trying to) and I know I need to relax. Unfortunately, time and money are things I'm not able to spare (single mom working and going to school while raising special needs teen and looking for better job). I've been angry a lot this week. Please share with me some advice and positive thoughts/words to help me through times like this week and not let my emotions result in me sabotaging my successes.

  • First off, slipping up happens. Don't let it bother you so much. Just remember why you are doing this and stay with it. Maybe right down a list of reasons why you are doing this. Post it to the refrigerator as a reminder.

An easy way I keep myself from over eating when dealing with emotional stuff is to take something for it. I take St. John's Wort pills for when I feel stressed or depressed. It helps level my moods and keeps me from over eating because of it. Its a pretty safe herb for this kind of stuff.

Also you can pick up some grapefruit pectin pills to help out. They are basically natural fiber pills. A lady who came into the local health food store said she lost 100 lbs from taking them - with no change to eating or exercising. The reason is that they make you feel fuller and therefore you just naturally eat less. Plus fiber helps you not absorb all the fat in your foods a little. I actually tried this out on my husband who refuses to eat healthier or exercise. He lost weight from it. So you can use them as a way to feel a bit better when you go a over your calorie goals.

But over all, don't give up on yourself. You can stay with it. You'll be proud when you reach your goals.

I am an emotional eater, too. I don't work anymore due to multiple health problems, but I still have lots of stress, just different. I hop on the treadmill, go for a walk outside, brush my teeth, eat an apple or just plain journal. I've had to find something else to fill my mind and keep my hands busy. I hope all goes well and your stress decreases. Feel free to add me if you want.

Journal, laugh at a funny movie, do some yoga, go for a walk or run on the spot. Focus on the good things, your blessings and the times when things are going well with your teen. If you focus on the negatives, you will continue to feel them. Count your blessings.

Thank you for the support and great ideas. I did sit down with DD and watch 27 Dresses last night. It helped. Sharing on here and getting some extra sleep also helped.
