I have semi-bad knees and wondered if there was anything I can take to help them? They seem to be getting stronger with work outs but I was thinking like a joint lube?? Can't do fish oil, not sure if it applies, but wanted to put it out there. Thanks!

Assuming there's no significant damage.. a balanced diet, weight training, and adequate rest.

Apple Cider Vinegar...I could barely walk anywhere!!!!! Chronic knee pain.....My Chiropractor even said I had one leg shorter than the other!! I went to a site at the suggestion from my niece called EarthClinic began researching knee/joint. I problems started taking the Apple Cider Vinegar and within 1 week I began to see a difference. In December I began to add MSM Powder to the equation and Now 4 months later my knees are 85% better. I promise, you will be a believer if you will start taking it! Sure hope this info helps you!

    What about flax seeds/oil?

Or using something easier on the legs like an ellilptical or bike.

I avoid treadmills for similar reasons.

I've talked to a few people that find Glucosamine works this as well as joint pain.

I have done a little research but have not taken them yet - Systemic Enzymes. If you Google this you will get some very interesting reading :)

  • A lot of my joints crack, they have since childhood, I take glucosomine and it does help. I stopped taking for a year or so (pregnancy) and my joints reverted back so it just eases the symptoms its not a cure I'm afraid.

I take a glucosamine chrondroitin MSM and Vitamin D combination that works wonders for mine. That and weight training to specifically strengthen the muscles supporting the joint. I avoid the elliptical because it isn't biomechanically correct for my gait, but love the bike, treadmill, squats, etc. Find the exercises that work best for the way your body naturally moves and work with it instead of against it and it will help a lot.

In terms of actual medical studies, glucosamine/condroitin have had no demonstrable results, though many people swear by it. There have been a few small studies that show some positive results, but nothing larger scale.

The thing that will help the most is losing weight and using gentle exercise that doesn't stress your joints, like swimming. I personally find cycling on stationary bikes aggravates my knees, so I avoid that. If you do feel like cycling hurts, it may be the way your bike is set up(seat height, etc). Have someone knowledgeable adjust it. Here's a great graphic that rates different supplements by actual studies done:

Not answering the question, but addressing a possibility....

Sounds like it may be Hypermobility Syndrome.

Do the simple tests at http://hypermobility.org/beighton.php

or you could at some point in your life (e.g. childhood, teens). Or demonstrated extra flexibility. Some joints may be quite in-flexible too.

Most likely one (or both) of your parents and possibly sibling has it too.

I have it too - it's ok ... genetic. Not life-threatening. Is fairly common as well.

I am not a medical expert, but doing research into the topic.

If you meet the above criteria I would like to know (you can FR me).

A positive attitude is VERY helpful as is a supportive family.

It is VERY important to be aware of this while losing weight too, but it CAN be done. I am at goal weight now.

A support group or doctor who understands the condition (or both) is a great start.

Make sure you use either a Personal Trainer or physiotherapist to work on various supportive exercises.

Some of the mentioned supplements can help relieve pain (in my case the joints only become painful when I am under a lot of stress / anxious, etc. - see a doctor for pain relief may be a good idea).

    Congrats on your progress.

Several interesting diagnoses here.. but the fact is that typically the sounds you describe are the connective tissues popping in and out of place. As they become stronger, the symptoms will fade. Proper diet, strength training, and rest.
