There is no real magic formula. how many calories are you eating? How much are you exercising? If you are just eating the set amount of calories and not exercising chances are the scale wont budge. ANd sometimes what MFP tells you is not gonna work. You have to play with it and see what works for your body! Add me if you want! I can look at your diary. I'm not an expert of course, but so far been pretty succesful.

That is not necessarily true. If all the settings are done correctly and the person doesn't have any medical issues (PCOS, metabolism issue, etc) it's completely possible to lose weight without exercise. I lost my first 10 lbs or so by sticking to the calories and nothing else. That was not 10 lbs of water weight in the first week, that was 10 lbs lost gradually over a little over a month. Plenty of people lose weight doing only calorie restriction. The calorie goal MFP gives you is designed to help you lose weight even if you are not exercising.

But it IS true that the 'formula' may not work the same for everyone, sometimes it takes some tweaking and sometimes it just takes time for your body to catch up to your efforts. Even if your profile is set to lose 2 lbs per week and you stick to the plan for a week, your weight can fluctuate by more than 2 lbs in a DAY just based on your eating/drinking/bathroom habits, not to mention water retention, so sometimes it takes longer than a week to actually see your results on the scale if there are things going on making the scale weight read higher than it 'could' under different conditions.

It's only been 5 days - if you put in you wanted to lose 1 pound a week, you still wouldn't see that even if you were going to lose that pound because it's only been 5 days. You have to give it time. Make sure you're accurately counting your calories (many people underestimate), and be sure to actually eat enough. Some people get discouraged and cut their calories even more and that slows down the process, not speed it up.
But most of all - GIVE IT TIME!!! :)

You are absolutely right, you can lose weight without the exercise, but chances are you could also not. I know for me without exercise I can diet all I want and the scale barely moves. Everyone is different :) That was really my main point.

Your diet looks severely restricted, far less than the 1200 calorie per day minimum that is recommended for women. If your goal is healthy weight loss, focus on good food choices and regular exercise rather than quick results.

I personally have lost 6lbs so far (started at the beginning of Jan) but a friend of mine has yet to lose any and she started before me. It works differently for different people but allyou can do is try right? It's a step in the right direction! :) x

Honestly, from looking at your food diary, you're not eating enough. You need to ensure you are eating the minimum of 1200 calories per day. Eating less than that actually doesn't work. It is counter-intuitive, but you really need to eat healthy and stay at a minimum of 1200. It takes a while for some people, so just keep working at it. You'll get there, but you have to do it healthy or you could end up hurting your body and still not get where you want to be.

    Best of luck!!

I'm going to be the bad guy here since no one else will.

You aren't eating enough #1. 500-700 calories a day is not enough food. Secondly, you only have three days worth of logging in there. #3, you're only been at it for three days. That's three days of a lifelong journey. You'll have to be patient.
  • You're not eating enough! When you eat too few calories, your body thinks it's starving and you're not going to lose. Don't be afraid to eat! Just stick to your calorie goals and it will happen.

i agree to give it way more time. i could never have guessed that i would lose as much as i have --- when five days in i hadn't lost any either (and for me 37 pounds lost has been since May 2011). slow weight loss is better than too fast.
Execise!!! good luck, be patient and determined, the positive results will come! and it IS TRUE to not eat too way below the goal. my daily calorie goal is 1200, and i lose steadily if i never go below 1000-1199 every day. (and eat half your exercise calories too!
and no junk food, btw) :)

I will echo the sentiment of calories, but would also add that you may want to start tracking your sodium. I would also worry about your sodium and not 8 glasses of water each day. You could be retaining water.

if you seriously want to lose weight, you need to be serious about the program. it DOES work. you just need to be all in. i hate when people refer to this as "my diet" because it's not...it's a life style change. I can't imagine not logging in everyday and counting calories. keep at it and soon you'll see results. i remember when i first started i wished that i could jump ahead months from then to see if i could keep at it and if it would actually work, but i stuck to it and am 54 pounds down. it's not going to happen in a matter of days...it's months. just take it one day at a time...but make sure each day counts and eventually it'll all add up. KEEP AT IT!!!!!

Didn't see your food diary last night - I do have to agree with others that say you should try to eat more. When you told MFP you want to lose weight, it gave you that 1200 calorie goal designed to help you lose weight *already* without even exercising. You should think of that number as one to shoot for and stay as close to as possible, not one that you have to stay as far under as you can. Try to get within about 100 in either direction, and don't be afraid to be over by a little bit now and then, that is fine. And when you exercise, if you are hungry, you can go ahead and eat back a portion of what you 'earn' through exercise. Some people prefer not to eat any of those 'exercise calories', some eat all of them, some eat just a portion of them. Different methods seem to work for different people. But do try to eat as close to that 1200 as you can - it helps ensure that you have the chance to get in adequate nutrition for healthy weightloss. :-)
