I have just been told I have a low iron count, can anyone advise what I should be eating to boost this!

red meat, spinach, egg yolks, arichokes, dried fruits, beans, lentils. Or take a supplement WITH something tha contains a lot of vitamin C like orange juice. Helps with absorption.

Liver one of the most iron rich foods, but I hate it!! Also, BAKED potato, spinich, sesame seeds, pine nuts, cashews, soyabeans... I'm sure there's lots of other stuff too.

If you find you are taking enough iron and you are still aneamic then it might be worth asking your doctor about folic acid. The body needs folic acid to produce blood cells but does not store it so it must have a constant fresh supply. For most people they get enough in their regular diet, but I have a hereditary condition which leaves me with a very high turn over of red blood cells.... my doctor had me on iron tablets for months and months before they put me on folic acid... as soon as i was on folic acid my situation improved.

I have a bowl of cornflakes every morning (fortified with iron) and that seems to have brought my iron count back to normal.

I get most of mine from cereal. 1 cup of Quaker Oatmeal squares provides 100% of the DV I believe. Meat is a better source though.
