On and off I retain lots of water. I can exercise really great for a week but then i have to take a few days off. if i exercise more than an house in a day, i'm up about 2lb the next no matter what. it's not like i'm eating more than im supposed to, it's just my body is like ... WHOA. Does anyone know what i mean? And also, does anyone retain a lot of water when your on your period *or close to it*? it's ridiculous for me. most was about..8lb.its crazy... one week out of every month i get depressed. even when i drink tons of water to try and get myself to "pee" it out... nothing. it just stays there. and finally goes back down. my weight flucutates all the time because of that.

me, me , me!
If I over eat I will retain about 3lbs of water the next day...if I overeat 2 days in a row it can be upwards to 7lbs or more...it takes about 3 days for me to loose the water weight.....0 -
I'm the same way!! Thank goodness I'm not alone on that one it's so terrible. I feel like a big bloated whale all the time. really takes down my self confidence level sometimes0

water retention is totally normal. if you want a more accurate weigh in i recommend you have some tea or coffee in the morning make sure you've gone to the bathroom before you step on the scale.0

I retain water like mad. Something I just learned, that I didn't know, is that beets are great for flushing out water weight! I just bought some today. HATE beets but I have a smoothie recipe and you can't taste the beets so all the benefit without the taste. lol0

no idea... i just count the fluctuations as fluctuations. yeah if i don't eat well, i'm over the next day, but that's what i expect, i don't blame it on water (poor water), i see it as a reminder from by body to eat better.0

I used to retain 3-5lbs water a day and 6lb+ at monthlies which would take over a week to come off. I went wheat free and it drastically reduced now goes up only 1lb a day maybe 2 lb if haven't been to bathroom for 3-4 days and monthlies is only around 4lbs and it comes off a lot quicker.
It's alot easier to work out how much I'm actually losing.0 -

I'm having the same issue. I hate feeling like a cow when I know it's not food just water that's weighing me down.
It's a struggle to drink so much water everyday when I'm already feeling bloated.0 -
First, love the name. Not sure if it's a Bright Eyes (the band) reference or not...
I retain anywhere from 4 - 6 pounds of water depending on the time of month. It is insanely depressing at times. It can be very frustrating when you are trying to lose weight when the water weight thwarts your efforts!0 -
I use to retain a lot of water. Then I started researching it to find out the possible cause. Here's what I came up with. One: estrogen and progesterone ratios. I think the ideal ratio is 1:4 estro-proges. if you have it reversed you will retain more water. Solution: DIM plus supplements or eating tons of cabbage, broccoli, spinach. I can't recall the other types of greens. I just take the pills that is a combination of the above greens in slightly higher doses. these help break down estrogen in the body so it is excreted instead of stored in the liver. Also go on a estrogen free or low estrogen diet. the best way to follow this is to research it. I have cut out soy from my diet because after becoming a vegetarian I ate predominately soy which we all know is good to some extent. The second culprit is magnesium, potassium, sodium, calcium imbalance. By taking a supplement of making sure I get magnesium, and calcium on a daily basis it helps. I notice the day I take calcium magnesium supp, I wake up a pound lighter. basic biology; water follow salt by taking in other that aren't hydrophilic you lose some of that salt with the water. the third culprit: inflammatory response from exercise. perfect example is I occasionally will work out 6 days a week. that week I feel soooo heavy! and the next day is worse I feel like I have gained 5 lbs and when I step on the scale sure enough there it is. I started taking a natural anti-inflammatory;turmeric daily or when i remember. I cut down my workout to allow more rest so 2 on 1 off, 3 on and 1 off. this allows for repair of the micro tears in my muscles that is causing the inflammation. finally I also drink the amount of water needed for my body. So at least half my weight in water in ounces. Not drinking enough water causes your body to hold on to water. the rational is that the body doesn't know if you are the desert and low on water resource, but when you put water in it will let a lot more water go. kinda like how the body reacts to low food intake. basically the body is a HOARDER! but is willing to let go as long as you give it more. Lastly high carb intake will also cause water retention; as the chemical compound of carbohydrate has H2O thus carbs stores glycogen + H2O. If you ever do a carb cycling or calorie cycling plan, on your high day you will gain at least 3 lbs because you are like to take in more carbs during those days. And I'd like to mention not everything has be taking in supplements. if you decide to try this you can take in the foods mentioned above and as far as turmeric goes, just use the spice to cook something yummy; it's really good for the liver too.0

Interesting, I've never tried tumeric to get rid of water. I have some in my pantry but am not sure what to do with it0
