Logging Shifts

Twice a week, I work 6-8 hour (sometimes 12 hours if I'm working a double) bar/serving shifts that involve never sitting down and constantly running around. I typically log these as 2 hours of walking at 3.0 mph (obviously a gross underestimate). However, my shifts the rest of the week are much shorter, and on days that I go to school I'm sedentary aside from the workouts I do - morning runs, DVDs, etc.

So, my question - is it okay for me to log this two days a week? I can't decide if it's constant enough in my schedule that it doesn't actually have an effect on me anymore.

    By the way, logging two hours of walking at 3 mph amounts to 400 calories, so it's a big deal for someone who nets 1400 a day. Thanks for the help in advance, guys!

    I would say eat at a "moderately active" level for those two days (you can change your lifestyle under "goals") and on normal days eat at lightly active or sedentary; whichever fits your lifestyle.

    Yup, depends what your activity level is set at. If it's set at sedentary, definitely log those days. If it's set at lightly active, you might be a little bit over on the very sedentary days and a little bit under on the shift days, so it should all shake out.
  • I would say yes....but caution on not overestimating how much you actually walk. Do you have one of those measuring ankle thingies? I suggest that only because until I joined this web site, I was underestimating what I ate, and overestimating how much I exercised.....so this may just be just me, and I may be biased because of my own shortcomings.....just a thought.

    I think it is good idea that you log your work. Specially if you are a server running back and forth. I have done it and it is a tireing shifts as a bartender but becareful. Your body gets used to daily activity. At a fast paced job you can see results when you first start but then your body adjusts to the normal cal. that are burned. Like if you jog 3 miles four times a week you eventually get more and more stamina and then the 3 miles seem like a breeze then you have to step up your 3 miles to 4miles. Just a helpful tip.

    I have a HRM that I love immensely, but I wouldn't dream of wearing it to work for that many hours. Thanks, though!
