Howdido there!
Uni begins again for me in a number of days that's less than I desire. /cue melodramatic sigh.
Last year - "First Year", as it so happens - was a right mess, as far as food's concerned! As I was new, and as there were so many cool people to meet / social things to do / nutritional and financial goals to let fall to the wayside, I got into the pattern of going off with a group of hungry students to buy and eat hot chips / burgers / dine-out food in all of its frightening forms.
And up went the kilograms.
And down went the dollars in my bank account.
Aw.
In hindsight, that was really lame. So, this year, I want to bring lunch and snacks from home as much as possible. The question is: What do I bring?!
Please, give me your ideas. The requirements are:
- Quick. I have only the smallest flicker of time in the mornings, between waking up and running to my bus!
- Pescetarian, i.e. I eat fish, but the flesh of any other animal's out.
- No dairy. Dairy substitutes are good though and should not be underestimated!
Thank yee. ^^

Ah, and I forgot to add the most important of the requirements: Healthy!
Think vegetables and whole grains and fruit and nuts and seeds, and the like.
I also need to up my protein intake... so, fish, lentils, beans, you name it. Give me your ideas! ^^0 -
Here are some quick ideas I use.
Breakfast
1/2 c. dry oatmeal
handful of raisins or dried cranberries
1 Tbsp. brown surgar
sprinkle cinnamon on top.
Heat in microwave for 1 min. mix, heat for 30 seconds more. Put a little almond milk on top if you'd like.
I also pack this in snack baggies and take to work so I can heat and eat there. The added bonus is a high fiber breakfast gets your metabolism going because it takes more energy for your body to break down the fiber. I lost weight before by simply eating oatmeal every morning. Wasn't even trying that time.
Eat every two hours.
Snack - about a 1/3 c. trail mix or a handful of almonds.
Good luck, hope this helps0 -
I think you said it right there: fruit and nuts/seeds for breakfast. Beans, veggies, and fish for lunch.0
-
Fresh veggies and fruit, 100 cal packs for when everyone else is having their chips, low cal/sugar cereals, yogurt, etc0
-
veggies and hummus, fruit and nut butter, pita pockets filled with veggies and hummus.0

Thanksies ~
I'm loving the veggies and hummus idea. Delicious!0 -
Is there a place you could heat things up?
Breakfast : whole grain muffins, sweetened with fruit, yogurt & honey ( whole wheat oatmeal with shredded carrots & raisins )
baked oatmeal, which I'm told is practically a cake for breakfast!
slice up an apple, give it a quick toss in OJ, grab a to-go sized packet of PB ( my personal breakfast of choice)
make ahead egg cups - break an egg into a muffin tin, add veggies, bake, freeze. Pop them into a ziptop baggie and nuke before you leave the house
yogurt with granola + fruit
Lunch : tuna + veggies wrapped into a lettuce leaf
vegetarian chili with lentils, black beans, etc
generic salad spiced up with dried cherries / apples, etc
Snacks : fruit, fruit, fruit!
crackers & hummus, or veg & hummus
string cheese
almonds0 -
PinkEarthMama, thank you for taking the time to make those lovely suggestions!
Yes, there's a microwave to heat things up, but it's a bit temperamental and tends to work on some days, but not on others.
Ooh... The "tuna and veggies wrapped in a lettuce leaf" sounds super duperrrrrrrr healthy! But I wonder, how do you keep it from falling apart - is there any particular way to wrap it, or a variety of lettuce leaf that is particularly durable?0
