Hello Everyone! This is my first time here and I'm still learning what this website has to offer. So far so good! I've been calorie counting for the last 2 days and I'm wondering....when the package says 6 oz of Pork Loin contains 160 calories is that 160 calories before or after you cook it? Thanks for your help!

Yes before. If it was after cooking it would say. You can find many in database that gives you cal after cooking. I think with most meat it doesn't matter unless it contains a lot of fat that melts off after cooking like burgers. Most is just water burning off.

Thanks! Maybe I should try to clarify my post...if only for my benefit. If the package reads 6 oz equals 160 calories does that mean you weigh 6 oz of raw meat or you weigh 6 oz of cooked meat because once you cook it it will weigh less?

the calories on the package are generally for the raw meat, it usually states if the calories are for when its cooked.
i would weigh 6oz of raw meat, as when you are preparing you have no way of knowing what it will weigh cooked. if it ends up being say 5oz cooked, you will have eaten slightly less than expected but theres not too much difference so dont worry about it .x
