At a standstill

Okay here's the deal...I've consistently worked out for a long time, and in the past I've lost weight with the help of Weight Watchers. Over the last few months of 2008, I gained a lot back. In January, I returned to WW, and over 2 1/2 months lost 22 lbs. I pretty much stopped going to WW once I started here, about a month ago. I track my food and exercise down to the calorie. I eat most of, if not all of, my exercise calories. I admit that on weekends I do tend to lose control of eating and I don't track calories, etc. That's something I know I need to change.

The point of my post is, since starting here I haven't lost much weight, 3 lbs I think. And that was in the beginning. I am wondering if I should go back to WW, or (aside from not controlling myself enough on weekends, which I am going to change), what's the deal? Am I doing something wrong? Should I go back to WW and do that instead, or wait it out to see what happens when I learn to control myself on weekends...any ideas or tips?

Eh, maybe I just needed to get this off my chest.

Sounds like as you said, the weekends are your problem. If you just let everything go for 2 days that can really mess your whole week up. From what I understand weight watchers online is basically the same thing. If you are going to the meetings than maybe that helps you. Don't give up, stick to this website and be really cautious about what you are eating and GOOD LUCK!

Have you tried doing belly dance? It's great cardio...most libraries have a few dvd's that you can borrow. It's a great all over body toner and you really sweat! lol.

Do you think you have reached a plateau? Try exercising more and see what happens.

It could just be that WW is what works for you and that's great if it is.

I know my biggest problem is not always tracking calories on the weekends and two nights of going out to eat seem to offset everything I did all week!

Once you figure out what you need the weight will come off. Good luck!

    Thanks for the replies!

I already burn off 1,000 calories at the gym, and I think I might invest in a heart rate monitor to track my burned calories. Maybe I'm not burning off as much as I think I am.

I would say if you are relying on the calories from the machines at the gym that might be your problem, they are way off. Invest in an HRM has been the best investment i have ever bought. That might make a huge difference. Good luck..

Holy cow! 1000 calories at the gym! That is awesome!!! I'd focus on the whole weekend thing first and then see how you feel. Good luck!

your body may be too used to your workouts, try changing them up and doing something different, play tennis, go bike riding outside, try a triathlon...

Stick with it and I am sure you will start losing again, i dont' see much difference with this program vs ww.

It may be that WW works better for you and your body and mentality, etc. There really is not 1 magic bullet for everyone! Short of going back to what worked for you - you can tweak what you are doing here. IE if you are eating all your exercise calories, try eating 1/2. If you are only eating 1/2 try eating most of them. If you have been doing the same type of exercise, do something a little different. Incorporate strength training into your routine. Try a new class at the gym - that always adds some spark! Since you struggle with the weekends, make it a goal to record what you eat for breakfast and lunch both days this weekend, then next weekend record everything. Even if you go over on your calories, have a record so you know what is happening and so you can begin to make smarter choices. That doesn't mean you can't splurge some!! Just know what you are doing.

Hope some of this is helpful  I know about the weekend struggle - I'm having a hard time right now myself! I am also stressed out with work to the max - we are at the peak of our busy season and everyone is getting cranky and tense. So, eating is a problem with me right now. Stress + donuts = UGH! But I'm doing what I can right now and will keep trying to do better. Sometimes success isn't just "winning" but in the "keep trying and don't give up, even if you fail or fall flat on your face". You can do this!! Whatever you decide - I wish you success :flowerforyou:

I tend to fixate on numbers. I'm not 100% satisfied unless I do 1,000! I figured that would equal about 1.5 lbs with a 5 day workout week.

One day I sat down and figured out my points from a previous day using my tracked food here. I found that what I was tracking here was almost exact what WW says I should be eating.

I must have just hit a plateau or something. I've started doing yoga twice a week, hopefully that will help .

Thanks! I already started tonight...everyone from work was going out for a drink. I opted out because even though I still have calories left to eat, I know a drink is never A drink, it's 2 or 3...then I tend to order burgers and fries and it all just goes downhill because then I feel sluggish tomorrow and don't work out. My friend was like "Come on, you don't have to drink liquor or eat when you go out, use some self control!" I was like "I AM USING SELF CONTROL BY NOT GOING OUT AND TEMPTING MYSELF!" And besides, what fun is it to sit and watch everyone else eat and drink?! :drinker:
