Grrrr - annoyed forum post - Beware

Hi everyone,
I see these posts all the time, but I just need a rant. Been really good this week, stuck to my food calorie limit and went to the gym 4 times this week - burning off at least approx 500 calories each time. I had a few drinks (alcohol) on Friday night but had been good with food that day and every other day. Now, I have actually put on a lb rather than lose anything. I am really confused and annoyed to be honest. I don't think its fat converting into muscle yet either, not at this early a stage.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Two words: water weight...
It is normal...drink more water today, keep up your exercise, eat smart and it will come off within a day or 2...don't stress about it...flucuations like that are NORMAL...especially for a female.0 -
Scales are evil.0

Hi,
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I know I shouldn't be moaning about it as it will come off but you know when you just have one of those days. There is nothing I could have done any better this week, asides from not have a few drinks (but then I would have cracked - gotta allow yourself something). But, it's just frustrating sometimes.

Scales are evil.
Hell yes - It's difficult to tell exactly where you are with your dieting etc as you have got to weigh yourself at the same time of day in the same circumstances etc to get an accurate reading.0 -
Sophia, I could have written exactly the same post as you apart from my weight has stayed the same. Like you, I don't think a week of exercising is going to build a pound of muscle tissue but I do think that muscles hold water after exercise. I'm putting my stay the same weight down to this (my muscles were aching from all the exercise when I weighed) and also the day before I weighed I eat bacon which has high salt content and probably caused some water retention. Lastly (!) the day before I weighed I didn't drink much water but did drink a couple more coffees than usual again causing some water retention.
I only weigh myself once a week or I become obsessive and its no good for me, so I'll carry on eating right and exercising and hope that the scales are kind to me on Friday.0 -
Not sure what kind of exercise you're doing, but weights and strength exercise will convert flab to lean muscle. Trying running or the elliptical machine 40 min/day to trim your waistline and buttocks. Get your heart rate monitor to 80% and you'll be burning over 600 calories/day.0

HI Rich. Not to get too technical, but flab does not get coverted to muscle, as I'm sure you know. Fat gets burned, muscle has to be built, two different substances. Also you can't target which area of your body will lose fat, although that would be nice! :-)
Sophia. Maybe try relying on measurements other than just weight. For me, my waistline is the true indicator of what is really going on. Today is tells me I didn't eat so well this weekend :-)0 -

I am only weighing myself once a month as I just couldn't handle it once a week. Hopefully I will have lost something the excitement for weighing myself keeps me going! Good luck0

Love this ^^0 -
The reason for the weight gain is your building muscle mass and muscle weights more than fat. I hope to get to that point again soon. Don't get discouraged just keep at it and push on. I was 165 now stalled at 135 but I will get down to my goal of 120 once winter is over here in my cold state.. Feel free to add me if you want.0

Were the drinks Margarita's? All that salt may have caused u to hold water, salty drinks like that make me swell.0 -
start taking measurements, then you can still see your progress when the scales are not moving0

Thank you so much for all your messages, you have been great. Feeling better today!0
